Who has a climber?

I must be part monkey, because I breed wild animals that can't stay off of the furniture.  My last three kids have been like this (maybe the first was too, but I don't remember it).

Every time I leave the room, I return to find DD2 standing on a table.  She's quick.  When DD1 was like this I tried putting up all of the chairs on the kitchen table so she couldn't get on, so then she just moved to things like the coffee table or the end tables.  Finally I gave up and just let her climb and deal with the natural consequences.  The pro of that approach was that she became very coordinated and could keep up with her brothers on the playground by the time she was 18 months.  The con was that she also climbed out of her crib at that point and we had to put her in a big girl bed early.

Anyone else have a monkey?

Re: Who has a climber?

  • My LO definitely is! She climbs up anything close to furniture to get on the coffee table or couch.. She's hilarious..

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

  • Mine climbs! I also just let her. We are not doing a crib but transitioning her to her own bed on the floor next to our bed on the floor. So far I have not met a downside to letting her climb except that I have to move hazzards out of the way and do more baby proofing...

  • E isn't so much a climber add he is a bulldozer. Every t time I leave the living room, I return to every stick of furniture not nailed to the floor moved. Either he's going to be an excavator for a living, or he's got a future with a moving company on the horizon.

  • Ugh yes it's a battle to keep him from standing on the couch. It's so bad that now he stands and before I can yell he smiles and says "sit down" cuz he knows I'm going to yell it. Then I have to turn my head do he can't see me laugh. It's so frustrating he knows sit down, and he knows he supposed to do it but doesn't lol I pray he doesn't start to climb out of crib

  • Oh the climbing...it will be the end of me!

She only just started this about two weeks ago. My girlfriend and I were decorating cupcakes for her little boy's birthday party, and our LOs were playing in the living room. She, in the matter of about 14 seconds mind you, flipped over a bucket of toy train tracks and when I peeked out to check on them...she was standing on top of it Titanic style. Arms stretched out and singing back to Thomas the tank engine on the tv.

She is now trying to scale the baby gate to get to the cat. Climbing the tv stand for whatever reason. She is climbing me. Climbing up on the dogs back, who thank goodness just lets her do it and doesnt seem to mind. I am so scared she is going to get hurt because she is like a ninja  : so quiet and sneaky!!! And she is starting to climb while looking at me and laughing hysterically.

whoa is me ladies...whoa is me

  • I may have spoke to soon on the climbing...

  • Luckily, Simon just has to be inside everything. He climbs into the toy bin, diaper boxes, cupboards, the bath tub, but he hasn't started trying to climb out of things yet. We will probably be taking the fronts of the cribs off here in a month or two tho regardless, once they are both walking regularly. Jamie still can't be bothered to walk most of the time - he can do it, he just thinks crawling is better all around. Simon is taking steps but hasn't got that confidence to do it all the time yet. I figure I can at least wait until they're toddling everywhere before I convert them :)
