too much sleep?

Last night LO was a crazyand get him ready for bed. man. He woke up From napping at 3 pm and did not go to bed until 12:30AM. That's a solid 8 hours of being awake. H and I tried everything to try and make him comfortable and get him ready for bed

Once asleep he pretty much STTN however an he wants to do today is Snooze. I've attempted to keep him up and entertain him, but every chance he gets he falls back asleep.

Should he still be Sleeping this much? I thought 5-6 awake hours was the norm for his age (5 weeks). I'm expecting that he is going to be awake all night now and I don't know what to do.

Re: too much sleep?

  • DD is around the same age and we have the same thing going on this week. I'm not really sure what's going on and the other change here is that she started reflux meds a week ago.
I've just been letting her sleep. I figure she must need it.

  • Sorry you are also dealing with this. At this point, I'm allowing him to sleep- l'm just worried that I shouldn't.

  • Sleep begets sleep at this age. I'd let him sleep.
  • 4.5 weeks and same thing here. Slept great last night, then today she has been cluster feeding and snoozing all day. Then this evening, she's been up 4:30-9:30. Very unusual for her. Finally asleep now in my arms and I'm afraid to put her down!

  • I don't have much to add except that I click on anything that has the word sleep these days. Gosh my LO has not had a good stretch of sleep since day one the max he has gone night or day is 2.5 hours. I am desperate to get him to sleep a little longer. I am hoping the 5 week mark tomorrow will start to calm him down. :((
  • 5.5 weeks and the exact same thing going on here! Last night, Anna slept 9pm-5:30am with a quick eyes-closed feeding in between there.... Now she's wide awake, has been since 5pm... And doesn't want to sleep. Growth spurt?! Ahhh!
  • I would attempt to get him to eat whenever you can, but otherwise let him sleep.
