Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

baby weight struggles

Is anyone else still struggling with a bit of the baby weight? I gained 65+ pounds with DD last year. I only have 8lbs left but it is driving me nuts. I also want to lose a little more before we TTC.  Any in the same boat?

Re: baby weight struggles

  • Umm, yes.  I gained around the same and was up to 200 lbs when I delivered DD. I am still struggling to lose the last 20 lbs. To be fair, I do not work out consistently otherwise maybe I would've shed the extra weight by now. But, I have never worked out much and never had a problem with weight. Now it's like If I even look at a cake/cookie, etc I gain 5 lbs. Did you BF? I did for 14 months and seemed to gain a little after she weaned.

  • Yep. I had about 12-15 left, then I started meds for ppd and now I have 22 to go :( I'm pretty unhappy.

  • The last ten pounds are holding strong. It's not like I'm working out or anything to make it go away..more like wishing it would go away as I sit on the couch eating cookies haha.

  • Yup. With the break in the weather I started working out pretty hard. With a full week of good workouts I gained two pounds. I know muscle weighs more than fat, but come on! lol
  • yes, i feel like I was doing well losing until i cut bf to once a day and gained some back.

I gained 40 and never lost the last 20.  So much for breastfeeding talking off the weight!  I'm pregnant again, so I'm trying REALLY hard to eat super healthy so I don't gain that much this pregnancy.

  • I gained nearly 70 lbs with dd, most of it due to excessive swelling.  But when I delivered I was 216.  I left the hospital at 180 and have stayed there ever since despite my effort.  I work out three days a week and eat very healthy so I don't get why I can't get these last 30 lbs off.  Drives me insane.  I still look like I am 9 months preggo if I don't suck it in.

  • My doctor feels the biggest thing you can do is cut carbs while exercising.  I was always in shape, a runner and the extra 10 lbs stayed on for some months after DS.  I went very low carb for 2 weeks and it all came off.  He says once you lose want you want to you can up the carb count again but in order to lose you really need to cut it out.  I did no pasta, bread, or dessert.  It was the summer so it was easier b/c there were so many fresh fruits and veggies available.  Smoothies are great for snacks.

  • Very motivational stories, encouragement and accountability on FB group No Excuse Moms.
  • I have probably about 10 pounds left.  I'm hoping working out more now that the weather is warming up will help take care of the last bit.

But like you I gained like 60 pounds in my pregnancy.  that was insane.  so I think overall, I am still doing well, but I'm getting impatient with the last 10 pounds!

  • I gained 70lbs when I was pregnant and lost 40lbs really quickly. The last 30lbs have been hanging on for dear life. I was low carbing it for a while which worked very well when I was younger, but my weight didn't budge. I even worked out a bit, but then I herniated the disc in my lower back picking up my son.

Now that I'm feeling better, I work out 3 days a week and try to walk more and eat unprocessed foods. I added carbs back in and weight started to come off. I am still confused by it, but hey it's working. Instead of doing just cardio this time; I also went back to weight training. Very light weights due to my back issues, but still gaining muscle. I have only lost 5.8lbs of the 30lbs so far, but my clothes are much looser and people are noticing.

  • I just weighed myself the other day (finally found a routine that let's me run 4 days a week) after about a month. I am down 5lbs. Happy about that. Agree with PPS need to eat clean and look at potion size. Goodluck ladies - it's hard but we can all do it.
  • Lord yes! I didn't gain that much weight (25-30 lbs) and lost all but the last 5 pounds. But I noticed I'm not as trim as I used to be, so my prepregnancy clothes don't fit. Unfortunately, by the time I get off work, it's time to make dinner and MH and LO get home. I only have about an hour and a half to spend with LO before she falls asleep, so working out on anything more than housework hasn't happened.
  • I am glad I am not the only one. I am starting to work out at work this week (we have a gym on site and they are starting yoga classes). I feel like I need to incorporate activity. I can not wait for the weather to get better so we get DD out walking at night again... we were good about this until about Oct.
  • Right here with you- I had gained a few pounds right before I got pregnant, so I'm 3lbs from PP but 6lbs from where I want to be. The number on the scale wouldn't be that big of a deal if I could get into my pants.

I gained 70lbs with DD and I had lost it all by her 1st birthday, even working out before the OB gave me the green light (pilates at 2 weeks PP is NOT a good idea). This time around I only gained 35 so I slacked off assuming it would be a lot easier this time around and I had plenty of time before his birthday since I only gained half the weight. NOPE.

I haven't been that motivated or had the best diet either, though. I just started working out consistently since the beginning of the year, but having a 4 year old and all her snacks makes it hard to have a clean diet.

  • Oh- and another thing about working out:

It takes 4 weeks for YOU to notice a change
It takes 8 weeks for close friends and family to notice a change
It takes 12 weeks for everyone else to notice a change

Don't get discouraged, stick with it.
