Overdue with an eviction notice, come on down!

I have had a great pregnancy. My only complaints have been my itchy skin and the pain in my pelvis prepping for labor. I am currently 41 weeks and my little one has 2 days until we go to the hospital for an induction. I haven't had contractions or any tell tale signs of labor occurring. Interestingly enough, I have dilated 3cm and am 50% effaced. Going online (I know, I know, terrible) makes inductions out to be a telltale sign of a terrible mother. I would just like anyone here to post if they are getting an induction (or have had one) and what has had them make that decision. I am having an induction because I feel that my baby is very comfy in there, she is still moving but I feel by her movements she is running out of room, I haven't had contraction braxton hicks or otherwise.

  • You're not a terrible mother if you get induced. I think if you read some of the birth stories on this board you will find that many women have been induced for various reasons.

Personally, I'm a little crunchy to get induced before 42 weeks, but I totally understand that this a decision between you and your care provider. Sometimes, induction can be what is safest for you and your baby.

  • My induction is this coming Tuesday.  Mine is because I have GD and I am insulin dependent but I have to say I am looking forward to knowing when this will be done.  My due date isn't until a week from Saturday and I cannot imagine going till then or even two weeks past.  You're not a bad mother.

  • I am scheduled to be induced at 41 and 3. This is the latest my MW practice allows you to go. It seems like forever away though so I really hope baby comes on its own. There is a history of no one going into labor naturally in my family though so we will see.

  • You are certainly not a bad mother if you are willing to take on what will likely be a harder labor (people seem not to enjoy pitocin contractions) because you want your baby to have the best chance to be healthy. Sounds like a really good mama to me!

I am still 39 +1 but my doc mentioned today that she doesn't like her patients to go past 41 weeks, so I might be in your situation soon. I am going to get a BPP on Monday and we will talk about options once we have that information. I am definitely camp do what is best for baby and I will get through whatever I need. Good luck and I hope baby surprises you early!
  • You're not terrible. My induction is already scheduled for 40 + 4 in case he doesn't get here on his own.

  • My doctor would like to induce at 41 weeks 2 days.  I am 40 weeks 3 days right now.  I haven't decided what we'll do yet.  Just hoping baby comes on his own!

  • I am 40w today....all looked great on NST and doc said we will check again Friday but if I continue to carry this high with ZERO cervical changes (sorry TMI) we are talking induction early next week. He also feels that there is a good potential that induction won't work and c-section is likely. I wasn't thrilled but honestly whatever we have to do as mamas to ensure healthy babies is the most important!
  • Thanks so much for all your encouragement. I really appreciate it and know that there are other women making this decision based on their provider or their motherly instinct. I appreciate all your feedback. I also love reading and seeing that I am not alone on what seems to be the longest pregnancy ever.
  • im 41 weeks and 3 days and we dont have an induction date yet, but i am not opposed.

i am anxious about being induced because I've heard contractions can be more intense from the pitocin, but at the same time, for me to go to 42 weeks also has some risks. i completely trust my OB, which i think it what matters most.  however your baby comes into the world will be okay, induction or otherwise.
  • I came in last night to be induced . I still haven't had her but the process hasn't been too bad . It's just a loooong process especially if your a FTM like me . I tried to go med free but got to
4 cm dilated and couldn't handle the pain , it's defiantly amazing !!

  • I'm scheduled for the 18th. I will be 42 weeks. I keep going back and forth about being induced or just having a c-section. I read way too much on the internet about inductions and terrified to do it.

I'm 40w2d today and I just got back from seeing my doctor. My cervix hasn't dilated any more since last week's appointment and although she's low and I'm 70% effaced, that kid ain't coming out until the passage way is wide enough. My doctor started talking about inducing next Tuesday at 41w1d because he said it could take 2 days for her to be born. I think that's a bit soon and I'm worried about pushing her to come too early. I have another appointment on Monday if I don't go into labor before then. I think I need to do some research so I can negotiate this induction date. U/S today showed she's doing well and I've got plenty of amniotic fluid... Why rush?

Edit: I asked about the membrane sweep I've heard so much about and he said it wasn't safe. I'm kind of bummed that there isn't a non-chemical induction method. Except hanky panky that is... But oh man, that would be so forced at this point.

  • @lopezalonso‌ did he say why the sweep is unsafe? I've had two so I'm curious.
  • @Kalpa521‌ maybe it has something to do with GBS+? My MW yesterday double checked I was negative before she did a sweep.

  • I'll be 41 weeks tomorrow. My doctor has scheduled an induction for 3/17, I'll be 41 weeks 4 days. I'd rather her come on her own, but even with the inconsistent contractions I've had, I'm not sure that's going to happen. Hope I'm wrong! I naturally had DS on my due date, so this has been a whole new experience.

@Kalpa521‌ I've been negative for everything so not sure why. He said that it wasn't safe for the baby but I don't remember the exact reason. I was kind of thrown off by how soon the induction date was so I didn't pay very close attention. Also, I have another appointment before the induction date so I figured I could ask more questions then. Sometimes I wonder if it truly is "unsafe" or if it's some sort of weird liability issue.

@lopezalonso - if you do find out is love to know. I think what @AshleyO925 said about gbs+ makes sense but I'm wondering if there is something else.
