Doctors office

edited March 2014 in 1st Trimester
Is it common for obgyn not to see you at all until after the first app? I had some stomach issues and called my doctor, they said couldn't help me because I wasn't a patient yet

"Stomach issues" seems more like a general practitioner visit, not an OB visit.

This. And most OBs won't see a new patient till after the intake visit, which is usually done with a nurse.

  • Yep, I tried to get in and they wouldn't see me since I haven't had my first apt. I just made an apt. with my primary doc and they were very helpful.

Sounds about right. My family doctor told me to call her office if I needed anything because I wasn't considered to be the ob's patient until they have seen me. If your stomach issues weren't pregnancy related then your PCP or GP would be the one to call anyway.

  • Thanks for the advice ladies! Whatever I was feeling has passed so for now I'm good to go. My first appt is not until April 10th! Will I have a ultrasound done at that time? Or is that different from doctor to doctor?

Differs doctor to doctor, but standard care for pregnancy is only one u/s at 20wks (anatomy scan) plus the NT scan if you opt for that at 12 weeks. You may have more if don't know when you conceived/had irregular cycles prior to your BFP, have had multiple losses, or develop complications that make you a high-risk pregnancy.

  • Yes. It's common. See your GP.
