Previous milk protein intolerance, what would you do?

I quit dairy about 3 months ago when DS was having a lot of issues with gas, reflux, etc.  Along with Zantac, this helped quite a bit.  We have cut back on the Zantac dose and DS is still doing OK.  At our 4 month visit, our pediatrician suggested that I might start slowing re-introducing dairy to my diet.  Recently I started having a piece of cheese here and there, and having other foods with added dairy.  He seems to be doing OK with it.

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I work long hours and in my workplace I am not always able to keep up w/ LO's consumption for the day, especially now b/c he his having a little growth spurt, I think.  I am having to dip into my freezer stash (about 140 oz).  The minor problem is, some of my stash is from before I gave up dairy.

So, here is my question:  I have some frozen milk in the freezer from November.  I believe it is still good to use, but of course I was on full dairy at that time.  I am thinking it would be reasonable to start using some of the frozen stash from when I was on dairy, maybe just one bottle per day or something.  I would like to rotate it out and maintain a fresh stash in the freezer, and also, I think maybe he is better able to digest the milk protein now at 5 months.

Any thoughts?

Re: Previous milk protein intolerance, what would you do?

  • He is still a little young but since he seems to be ok with the cheese, I would try an older bottle and see how he does. Maybe just one at first or mixing it like AmyG suggested. GL!

  • Unfortunately, you are just going to have to experiment on him. Give him a bottle of your frozen milk with dairy and see how he reacts. My LO is 15 months and we are just now getting over the dairy problems. Even now, sometimes she seems ok, then next day she's back to being fussy.
  • Thanks for the input, ladies.

Just a follow-up:  I have been giving him about 1-2 bottles of the thawed bottles every couple of days.  He seems to being doing fine with it so far.

    Thanks!
