sa today. awkward parking lot story. is this normal?

I found out our hospital does not encourage us to use the bathroom and wouldn't provide a room. Due to distance, had to provide our sample in our car.. i parked as far from the entrance space would allow,and we were seen by at least two people. So embarrassing! I tried to keep an eye out, But people kept walking by.

Is it normal for the hospital to make people do that in the parking lot? Then My dh provided the tiniest amount ever. I guess because he was nervous? He has never had a problem producing at home.

I would say that is pretty abnormal. My DH gave his sample at my RE's office where they had a room with "materials" for him. Sorry you guys had to deal with that.

Wow! I have to say that is crazy! I have never heard of such a thing. Our hospital would have provided a room, but dh wanted to do it at home and risk having to do it again (in case I didn't make it in time). Next time I think I would explain the situation and demand they provide a room. Or at least a private bathroom. Your poor dh!!

I think next time we will just do it in the bathroom regardless of their rules. I mean,technically we could land on the sex offender list for doing that in such a public place! Not to mention, i am a public figure here. Everyone knows my face. Until i was promoted a couple months ago, i was a morning tv news reporter. Someone catching us on a camera would go viral. Eek.

OMG how terrible. I would definitely complain about this. They should be equipped to handle this sort of request. That would be like you going to film the news with no camera. That is pretty ridiculous.

Pretty sure what they are making him do is illegal...for him. I would demand a room and explain that you don't want to be treated like an animal. That would infuriate me. I'm angry *for* you. I'm so sorry you guys have to put up with that. If they wouldn't let you do it in the waiting room, what makes it appropriate for the parking lot? It just doesn't make any sense. Demand a room! I have the same situation...our clinic is an hour away and we need to have it there in 30 minutes. They wouldn't provide us a room and we decided to try another day..their ours are ridiculous too from 7-1 so we both have to take another day off to do this. So frustrating for him and I cant fix it. I understand how you feel and im not looking forward to being in that situation here soon.

There's gotta be a diff collection center you could try, that's redic! , the results would be off anyway. What a terrible situation. My DH would never be able to perform. Poor guy.

Yeah, we aren't yet working with an RE (who seem to have rooms available), so DH was referred to a regular lab testing facility (ie. where you go to do drug tests). The receptionist there told him that if he couldn't get there within 1/2 hour, he would have to stop in a secluded area along the way. Fortunately, DH was able to do the deed at home and leave at light traffic time, so he made it, thank goodness.

I don't want to Google it at work to confirm, and of course it may vary from state to state... but shortly after this, I heard on a radio show that exposing yourself in your own car (which is private property) is considered different then public exposure.

Yeah, sounds awful. We were always provided a private room with materials.

I am not sure what the state laws are in your case, but I would go to a lawyer to see if this is at all legal (and also if you can sue them for potential harm to your career). So sorry you had to go through this.

That's horrible! As if, DH isn't uncomfortable enough giving a "sample" to make him do it in the parking lot is just ridiculous! So sorry you had to go through that!

Wow, I can't imagine having to do that. Like just about everyone else DH gets a private room with materials. Sorry you were put in that situation.

Oh my gosh, your poor hubs! We live close enough to the RE where DH can give his goods at home, but when we froze a sample he had to go to RE and they gave him a private room. The room was even separate from where the women/couples enter to get to the main area. Apparently, there was a video for some viewing pleasure

yes I believe I will be complaining next timein fact we just ran a story todayabout a guy who did rub one out in a drive thru and got arrested. Now his mug is plastered on our website. That could totally have been us.

This seems incredibly unprofessional of your RE's office. I mean they are a FERTILITY clinic, how can they not provide a room for this?? Infertility is hard enough to deal with on it's own, and this is just an added and very unnecessary stress. I would definitely complain and insist they provide a room. I am so sorry that this is something you and your H have to deal with.
Reading some of the stories of RE clinics on here, makes me so grateful for my clinic. They have been nothing but amazing so far for this process.

Oh my goodness this sounds ridiculous.

Our SA was done at a regular lab, so we got the sample at home and drove it to the lab. Thankfully we made it in time.

Wow, that is horrible that you had to do that! DH just stopped by our clinic and they gave him a cup and instructions and he will be able to do it at home and then bring it into the hospital that they use.

We only have a hospital nearby that does lab work. To save a two hour trip, we did it here in our town. We have no fertility clinics within a two-hour radius.

At least my next appointment will be our last stop at the OBGYN before getting to the specialist. I'm sure a real IF clinic will not treat us this way.
