DH and I are going away overnight on Friday and DD is staying with my parents. This will be our first night away... made me wonder about everyone else! Not including overnight shift work...

Re: CPW: overnight away??

  • Nahhh. I'm good. I hate being away from him for the work day. I can't imagine overnight :(

  • Not ready yet to leave her overnight.
  • I'm not sure I'm ready yet...but we made the plans last fall when I was a little naive that I'd be OK with this!
  • We've had 3 overnights away (date nights). I guess I'm a SS, because that doesn't bother me if I know he's with someone I trust.

  • The only night I've been away from my 2.5 year old was when I gave birth to DD. DH and I have an overnight trip planned for September, I'm not leaving them any sooner than that.
  • I'm sooooo not ready!

    My baby is ONE!!

  • I'm not planning to be away from LO overnight until she stops nursing, especially since I'm not pumping what she's eating while I'm at work, so my freezer stash is decreasing quickly.  My BFing goal is 1 year, so we'll probably try to do our first night/weekend away from LO sometime this fall.  My family lives nearby, so LO would stay with my parents.

  • I leave my oldest two (almost 6 and 7) sometimes. They love staying at their aunt and uncles house. As for C, I haven't left her, and don't plan to anytime soon. I just ain't ready for that.

  • I hear ya @Caz1221‌ we will be away for no more than 24 hours and I'm concerned I won't be able to pump enough to replace. My pumping SUCKS but usually equals out by the end of the week.
  • Haven't yet. Not opposed to the idea but also not seeing it happen in the next few months.
  • SS - the big one stays w my mom all the time. I haven't left the babies yet but it isn't bc I don't want to, it's more like I feel bad asking anyone to watch a 4yo and 8.5mo old twins overnight.

I was supposed to travel for work this week and would have left them all with H but that fell through. I was actually looking forward to a night away. I'm tired.

  • He's not ready. I feel badly leaving him at bedtime.
  • If it's someone I trust, it doesn't bother me. LO had his first overnight away at 4 weeks. He's probably stayed with Grandma about once a month since then. He's a great sleeper, though. If bedtime was a struggle, I'd probably feel much differently.

  • DH and I just talked about this. We don't want to leave him overnight and can't really see it happening anytime in the next couple years. If we go away, DS will be coming along for the trip.

For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So, quiet down cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep."
  • I've considered asking my parents to take her for a sleep over in the not too distant future so H and I could have a date night, but when I think seriously think about it I feel sad so I'm not ready quite yet...

  • I'm no where near ready. It causes extreme anxiety just htinking about it.

OK follow-up question to those not ready (if you see this)... Wondering what's the difference between working Moms and SAHMs on this topic? I don't love it, but I'm used to being away from DD about 9 hours a day.

Even though I see her less, I wonder if its harder for a SAHM to want to get away since they are ALWAYS with LO? I don't recall everyone's situation and I could cross-reference the other CPW on this.

Edit: said "Mom" too many times :-)
  • I will only leave her overnight with my mom. We have once for a date night, and once for our wedding night.

The funny thing is she was about 3 months when we left her last. Now that she's older, I have more anxiety about leaving her. I'm not sure why that is, I would think it'd be opposite but who knows.

@ludali I work and there is no way I could leave DS overnight.  I have to go to work but I do not have to be away from him for a whole night.  I don't mind a date night but waking up and him not being there just doesn't feel right to me.  My mother in law thinks he will when we stop nursing but it will probably be longer than that.  It is just not something that I have a need for.

  • I hear ya @KQuinonez‌ I'm really interested to see how this will all go. She's going to be in great hands, I have to keep that in mind. I may have a work trip in June, so I guess this one night away will prep me for that! :-/
  • @ludali I'm a working mom and voted not ready to leave LO overnight anytime soon. I feel like I spend enough time away from him as it is. :(

It is funny how we think we will be ok with things beforehand and then they happen and we realize we were totally clueless.

  • We have not left her yet, but we have concerts to Stagecoach which is a 3 day country concert in Cali at the end of April. I'm completely freaking out. DH bought the tickets in October and I thought I would be ready for an overnighter by then since she will almost be 8 months. But I'm not and have anxiety just thinking about it. DH really wants me to go and doesn't want to sell our tickets so we are definitely going but being gone 2 nights and 3 days will probably kill me. I will need a Xanax just to get out of the house.
  • @Hhaber‌ our overnight is for a concert too. Its tradition that DH and I go to this show ever since we started dating...its a big fun night away in Boston. We skipped last year when I was pregnant but thought it was a good idea about 6 months ago. I'm looking forward to the time with him, but I'll definitely be anxious to get home.
  • I'm with @Cosmic+Love and @KQuinonez. I'm away from him all day, so by the time I get home, I don't want to spend another minute away from him.

  • @starscream‌ its funny you say that about pics because I feel like DD will be the majority of our conversations!!
  • I couldn't imagine leaving DS overnight right now, not even with family. I am a SAHM, and I'm sure it's the same with working moms, but I love to be around DS all the time!
  • For us personally, we are not doing babysitters. There isn't anywhere we want to go anyway, where we can't include LO.

  • We haven't been away from LO overnight yet, but I think I'd be comfortable with just one night. And only if it was with my parents.

  • I put SS....we haven't left him overnight yet but just because there hasn't been any reason to do so.  I honestly feel like if he were with someone I trust, I'd be alright.  I'd definitely miss him but I know it's going to happen at some point.  If we don't do it sooner, we're planning a night away in October for a friend's wedding.  He'd be with the nanny we've had since he was 3 weeks old so I would fee OK with it; he's more comfortable with her than any of our family.

  • If anyone recalls, I posted about a month ago that DH and I finally DTD, so needless to say, being in a hotel room with him is helping me get through some of the uneasiness leaving DD. ;-)
  • I'm a working mom (just returned to work 2.5 weeks ago), and I voted not ready yet.  I'm already away from her during the day M-F, and pumping just stresses me out, so I have no desire for a romantic getaway until I don't have to lug the pump!  Plus, LO's bedtime feed and first feed of the morning are special times for us since it's just the two of us in the nursery.  I figure the first 7 months have flown by, so the next 5 are sure to go even faster, and then I'll miss our special feeding times!

  • LO has stayed overnight with my Mom once. I was anxious the whole time. I don't think I am ready to do that again yet.

Because I'm away for so long during the week, I want as much time with him as possible at night and on the weekends.
