Breastfeeding

UPDATED: really just a rant but tips are always welcome!

UPDATE:

I finally took LO to the dr today bc he was spitting up so much! He gaines 1lb 8oz in two weeks. We also did a weighted feed and I checked him when he slowed down. In 15 min he got 3 oz. He wanted more but she suggested not letting him go more than 20-25 min per feed bc over eating could be causing the fussiness and excessive spitting up. What do you girls think? It sounds so counter the whole nurse on demand thing.

.......

While I love the cuddle time with my LO, im finding bf'ing to be really frustrating! For nearly two weeks, my 3 week old has neen nursing constantly. he nurses, spits up, nurses more, cries, spits up etc.

When he is nursing he will also push, pull, unlatch and relatxch on his own or stary mibbling on me.

I hearbthis is all normall but coupled with sleep deprivation and its just so frustrating! I know its supposed to get better but right now iys not so fun...

I quit with my first and regret it so im really trying to push through. This is so important to me!

Youve all been so helpfull on this board.

I hope o can make it to my goal!

  • You can do it!!

I remember turning a corner after 6 weeks where it felt easier.... I hope you have that corner turned soon.

Have you practiced reclining and nursing or side lying or something like that where you can rest a little bit more?

  • You can do it mama!
  • You can do it! It really does get SO much easier! I remember spending my whole maternity leave on the couch with DD on the boppy alternating between nursing and sleeping. I watched lots of Netflix and SVU marathons. Lol. When LO is a little older he will become more efficient and won't spend so much time at the breast. I almost quit numerous times in the beginning but am SO thankful that I didn't. We are still going strong! Hang in there and never quit on a bad day!

The same thing happened to me with DS1. Now I'm 7 months EBF with DS2! It got easier for me after 6 weeks. I love the time with my LO and the health benefits and cost of formula are helping me meet my goal. Hang in there!!
  • Real quick I'll add another confirmation that it does get better!

I remember a time when I would have to focus myself to just think about getting through this next feed and take it one feed at a time.

I had also been told that you need to give it at least 6 weeks before making any decisions long term and also 'never quit on a bad day' keep those thoughts in mind!
