Opinion on Birthday Party Idea

I'm trying to come up with something to do for DD's second birthday. There's not much to do in our area for someone her age. We've thought about having the party at our house, but I'm terrible at entertaining people and we don't have the space for roughly thirty people. It will be mostly adults with about five kids under the age of ten. The only thing I've come up with is having it at a bowling alley. Can a two year-old even bowl? Obviously, I know she'll need help, but I'm just wondering if it would be a good idea. She is well behaved when we are out in public, but I'm thinking there will be too much going on (noise, people, etc.).

Re: Opinion on Birthday Party Idea

  • Meh, I'm not saying it's a terrible idea, but I would probably save the bowling party for when she's old enough to actually enjoy the sport, you know? I always tried to pick something for my kids' parties that they primarily would really enjoy, but also would be entertaining for the rest if the guests.

  • A bowling party with young toddlers sounds like a nightmare to me honestly. Sorry.

Do you have any children's museums in the area? How about city park gymnasiums? Maybe an indoor community pool?

  • Can you have it at a park? That's what we did for LO 1st birthday. Or is there a community room you can rent out? That's what we did for LO's baptism. A bowling alley party sounds scary to me with toddlers...

  • I would think bowling would be too difficult at that age.  If you can't do it at your house then I'd look into renting a park space or community center.  You don't really need to entertain people.  Just provide food, drinks, and cake.  They will just visit with each other.
  • I don't think bowling is a good idea. Have you thought of maybe a place where they can run around crawl through things? We have a place out here called Hippo Hop. It has tunnels to crawl through, games, etc that is appropriate for certain ages. They have separate rooms for parties and such. Reminds me of that place that was around a long time ago called "Discovery Zone", but for LO's.

  • I would think a park or something simple - especially since its mostly adults! A friend of ours rented a local hotel pool since it was still chilly out. Then adults can swim too!
  • Some bowling alleys have bumpers to put up to block the gutters so little kids can play. I don't know how much she could really enjoy it though. What about a park with a playground and picnic tables? Do you have a zoo within driving distance? Most zoos have areas you can rent for a party. If you just need a space for people, you could check out local chapters of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, etc. Sometimes they will let you rent a room even if you're not a member. YMCAs usually have rooms to rent for parties as well. Does another relative have a larger space they would let you use for the party? I plan to have DSs at my mom's house since she has more space.
