Trouble TTC

IUI Question- First timer

We are on our first cycle of clomid & IUI. Short history: 2 miscarriages, both around 8 weeks, second one confirmed chromosomal (Trisomy 16). Both were conceived after around 9 mos of trying, and after the next 9 months we went through the testing to find I had low ovarian reserve (.73) and one of my two fallopian tubes were slightly dilated.

We just went in today (day 13, OPK+ last night) and I just want some feedback on my numbers. After starting clomid this month (50 mg, days 3-7) I had 3 follicles- 29, 22, and 17- RE said the 22 and 29 looked promising and 17 was just barely mature. Additionally, when my husband went in this morning he had trouble producing a large sample so sperm counts were lower than hoped for- after all this we found out he could do it at home being that we are <10 min from the office. I did not get counts on his sperm but will call for more detail tomorrow when we call to schedule for his sperm analysis. We completed the procedure but don't feel hopeful, even though it "takes just one".

Feedback on follicle size, sperm count, or your experience? Thanks :)

Re: IUI Question- First timer

  • So you did the iui today? 18 is considered mature for a follie size, and 29 is very large from my experience and what I've read on here so I would assume the 22 and 29 would for sure be good but possibly the 17 too. As for sperm count.. I believe they only need either 5 or 10 million to be good. (We get a report with the counts whenever we so an iui).

It does just take one and so you never know.. Just have to wait! I've had three IUIs, last two I had three follies and the sperm counts/motility etc. were all good but BFN so far so I don't really have anything successful personally. :(

    Me: 32  DH: 33  Married: March 2004

    July 2006: started TTC
2008: HSG (normal), couple rounds of clomid through gyno
2008 - 2010: dragging my feet out of fear and procrastination
October 2010: first consultation with RE, dx PCOS and fibroids (DH slightly low count/motility)
Oct. 2010 - Dec. 2012:  In DENIAL! avoided the issue because I was scared of surgery
January 2013: returned to RE, fibroids grew significantly
February 2013: second HSG, fibroids pushed on tubes which blocked them somewhat
March 2013: MRI to determine what type of surgery may be necessary

July 29, 2013: fibroids (5) removed via robotic laparascopy
August 2013 - Nov 2013 : benched due to recent surgery

    IUI #1, Dec. 24, 2013, BFN
    IUI #2, Jan. 25, 2014, BFN
    IUI #3, Feb. 25, 2014  BFN
IUI #4 canceled due to lack of response to letrozole
    IUI #4.1 April 28, 2014, BFN

May 16, 2014: wtf consult, start prepping for IVF in June and add injects for one last IUI in the meantime
IUI #5 started letrozole and bravelle but canceled after HSG led to new diagnosis

May 21, 2014: third HSG, tubes blocked, one at the beginning, one hydrosalpinx??
June 11, 2014: consult, approved to move on to IVF because the hydro is not completely blocked therefore allowing fluid to move through slowly rather than backwards
    IVF #1 August 8, 2014 - 3dt of 2 embryos, BFN
September 17, 2014 - 4th HSG, the right tube is very patent (open!!) dye went straight through this time. Weird!
    October 2, 2014 - started metformin treatment
    November 14, 2014 - blood work, brought A1C down from 5.8 to 5.5

November 26, 2014 - RE finally back from vaca and reviewed my chart, no more IVFs for rest of calendar year
December 1, 2014 - Right after Thanksgiving, I called a new clinic and got in right away! Plan for IVF
    December 17, 2014 - ER! 29 retrieved (!!), 16 mature, all 16 fertilized (ICSI)

    IVF #2 December 20, 2014 - 3dt of 3 embryos, BFN

We are done with treatment unsuccessfully. :(

  • I think your follicle counts sound pretty great.  Mine usually range around 20-22 and I only have 1 or 2 at a time.  Like PP said the 17 might not be ready, but the other two sound great.  As far as your DH, having a smaller sample can effect the counts, but don't count yourself out.  My DHs last sample was small because it was a Sunday morning and the clinic was very busy.  His #s were only 5 million.  That is definitely low, but they said they have had success with lower.  Only time will tell, but it sounds like you have a pretty good chance here.  Good luck!
    Ba hahahaha!

  • Thanks for both of your replies! I couldn't wait so called the doc and got his #'s. Post-wash there were 7 mill, 42% mobility, and then she said 1 mill mobile. Nothing is ever easy when it comes to TTC! While the hope is that this round works, it sounds like we'll need to pursue further testing to address more issues.
