I'm think about getting an elective ultrasound for this baby in my hometown when we go to visit my mom and dad in April so they can join in on the fun of finding out what the baby is.
I'll be just over 17 weeks when (if) I get one. Is this far enough along to get a fairly decent shot at finding out the gender? Any recommendations in choosing a place? Anything I should know before booking?

Re: Who had an elective u/s with LO?
I didn't have to do anything to prepare, including having a full bladder. They didn't request that either time, which I realize they wouldn't need to if just checking sex.
We only have to places here for people to go and I think they are about the same. Good luck, it will be fun for you guys!
The place I went was so cute. The lights were low and I got to lie on a cozy mattress, which is so much better than the hard metal tables at the OB's office. There were nursery rhymes playing quietly in the background too.

We didn't find out what B was but can I just say how crazy is it to be able to find out what baby is at 16 weeks? I'm amazed! GL on your elective! FX they can get a clear shot!
Thanks! I was hoping that you would chime in @bobkat22! I think I'm going to go for it. The place I'm looking at has been around for a while...and turns out there are only two places in my parents town that do elective u/s, so it shouldn't be hard to choose.

As a birthday present, I was given a package that included hard copy prints & video on DVD.
Personally, if you're going to have the A/S at 20 weeks, I'd just wait till then to find out the sex, since it's only a difference of 3 weeks.
eta- sorry I missed you saying you want to go with your parents! Disregard that last part
