Multiples

I never knew I could survive on this little sleep ...

Seriously, every time the babies are willing to give me 2-3 hours of unbroken rest, SOMETHING else happens ... last night a picture fell off the wall at 5am; other nights the toddler wakes up wailing ... sigh. I had a royal meltdown this morning when one of the twins spent the first fifteen minutes of his morning screaming and I decided to join him!

My only consolation is that it can't really get much worse, so it HAS to get better sometime.

Re: I never knew I could survive on this little sleep ...

  • awww-  I am in the same boat.  In the last month both babies went through the dreaded 4 month sleep regression and generally I was up every hour.  On top of that, in the past 6 weeks, we've had 3 of our smoke detectors malfunction and go off in the middle of the night, an ice dam that my husband decided to fix by banging on the roof with a hammer for an hour RIGHT after I had gotten the girls to sleep, and then one night our dog got sprayed by a skunk, so we had to deal with that all night.  It has been a rough winter!  Hopefully spring time brings us all some relief!

  • Thanks to all the moms with older twins for chiming in and assuring us that it gets better. I have cried so much weepy crying the last few days, its unreal. My girls are almost 10 weeks and they even sleep a good few hours (the last few nights at least, and its still never enough sleep) - but the non stop grind of this whole thing is really getting to me. I am actually looking forward to going back to work and handing them off to the nanny, how awful is that?

I handle all night feedings unless things get super out of hand. I don't mind too much. I have to breastfeed H and pump anyway and my husband is on call every other week. However, it really pisses me off when I give him a recap of the night and he says "oh, so you got a good chunk of sleep." Sure, they only woke up once, but H took 40 minutes to eat and E didn't want to go back in her crib and I pumped and put away the milk and got a snack and then it was 5:00 a.m. and I got to sleep for an hour and a half before doing it all again.

  • Sorry you are so sleep deprived.  I remember when I would like if I could just get one hour of continuous sleep I'd be golden.  Thankfully, they started STTN around 6 mo old.

No shame in looking forward to your help coming and a return to your work either.  I wouldn't have been able to handle being a SAHM with my twins.  Hang in there!  It WILL get better!

Wait, what do you mean 4 month sleep regression? No one told me about this.  I'm not ready for this.  I'm just starting to get a little bit of sleep.  I don't want a "Sleep Regression"!  Noooooooooo!
In all honesty, no I didn't know about it, but it hasn't been bad so far.  They'll be 4 months next week, were born 1 month early.  One night one of the boys slept 9 hours!  Of course, he fell asleep at 7pm and then I was able to get stuff done, which meant I didn't get to sleep until almost midnight, and he woke up at 4, but still, it was nice that he slept that long.

Hah - sounds about right. I get the same thing here. MH is out of town for 10 days and I am solo, last night was a freaking disaster but there are only 2 entries in our feeding log book - doesn't count the number of times I re-inserted a pacifier!!
