One & Done: Only child

I had an awesome parenting moment last night

Ok-- quick backstory-- DD has a fairly significant speech delay.  She's been in therapy for about 4 months now, and is improving slowly, but at her 3 month progress report, she's still only has the speech of maybe a 15-18 month old.

I am almost 90% sure that yesterday, when I got home after work, she said "Hi Mommy."  I about died-- she's never said mommy before, and she's for sure never refered to me as "mommy" before.  She wouldn't repeat it when I asked her to, but I am pretty sure that's what she said!  Also, two words together???  Maybe it's starting to click for her?

Anyway-- just needed to share, since my friends kids that are similarly aged have, you know, been reciting Shakespeare since they were 9 months old.

Anyone have an awesome parenting moment to share?

Oh!  That first "mommy" or "mama" just melts your heart!  I still remember DD's first one!

That is awesome!  So happy for your DD and you! Those are the nicest words to here.  Love it when DS used to say Mommy.  Now I am Mom for some reason, not sure when that happened and usually it is said in a painful drawn out way....like "MooooooOOMMMM.......". if you get what I mean.

Awesome parenting moment of yesterday was a terrific report card with great grades but also glowing words about how he is kind and polite to others and is a diligent and hard worker...that's my boy.  Also happy with myself for dealing well with his lack of satisfaction with the report card (he did not like the fact he did not get ALL perfect scores, perfectionism issue).....I simply said that I was really proud of him regardless and hoped he would be able to see that as well but left it at that.  Usually I try to argue and reason with him and sometimes get frustrated but I was very calm and accepting and using the techniques I am learning from his counselor and my reading......go me :).

  • Thanks for letting me share!

  • I had a rehearsal last night and DD was STILL awake when I got home (usually she's out be then).  She saw me come in and toddled towards me yelling "Daddy, daddy, daddy!!!"

<sigh>  At least she was happy I was home, right?

OMG @tarheelmomtobe you scurred me for a minute.  I though you were a dude infiltrating!
