jump in milk intake

Has anyone had any experience with a sudden spike in intake? DS turned six months today. About a week and a half ago he went from drinking 14 oz a day at daycare to 19! I can't really keep up. We've also added in two meals of about two ounces each. I thought it was a growth spurt but as time goes on it seems unlikely. Any advice/experience?

Re: jump in milk intake

  • Not sleeping more at night, although I wish. He's been at the same daycare since twelve weeks. He used to do one 3.5 and 3-3.5 oz bottles, every 1.75-2 hours. And now its 2-3.5 and 3-4 oz bottles. Usually every 2/2.5 hours. Same teachers since he was 12 weeks so they 'get him'. He is big, about twenty pounds. It stinks because I really don't want to supplement, but I'm going to have to soon.

  • My thought was maybe he is sleeping longer stretches at night? Around 6 m my son slept from about 7:30 to 4:30 am (not any more! Oh well!). Anyway, so he would sleep at 7:30 (nurse to sleep) I would pump 8:30 to 9 pm and go to bed. Then set my alarm for 11:30 and pump again from 11:30 to 12. Then sleep till he woke up.

  • Just saw your reply. My son is 7 months and ha been drinking 16 - 18 oz a day at daycare. I pump a lot at work. Sometimes 5 times a day (plus the one after he goes to bed). Can you pump more? I even stay after work to pump before I go home.

I remind myself, it is only for a few more months!

  • Thanks everyone. I tried some power pumping tonight. @cinderin‌ can I ask how long you pump each time at work?
