Favorite Frivolous Baby Item?

I'm a FTM and at my shower last week I noticed that several moms gifted me their favorite "frivolous" baby item - I say frivolous not because I thought there was anything silly about the wonderful gifts they gave me, but because they were more "accessory" baby items than necessities. For example, my SIL gave me a BooginHead SippiGrip to clip to my stroller, which I thought was a great idea. Here's a link. Also my other SIL gave me a crib-to-floor activity center which I thought was awesome as well (we'll have to see how LO likes it).

Do any other STM moms have recommendations for "frivolous" baby items they loved?

    Sophie.

She's a ridiculously overpriced teether, but the kid nommed the shit out of that giraffe.
I already can see someone bought me a Sophie off my registry. I'm pretty excited about it!

Agreed.  When I opened it at my shower I actually said "Thanks, it's a dog toy!"  Because it pretty much is.  But it's like crack for babies.
Based on the amount of recommendations I've heard from STMs about Sofie the Giraffe, I have to conclude that she is either crack or magic... or MAGIC BABY CRACK!
Catnip for babies? I really want one lol

  • I agree with Sophie. I splurged on A+A blankets, though I think they're overpriced.

  • I plan to give my daughter my son's old Sophie, which he hasn't bothered with in many months. Hopefully it won't spark jealousy, but if it does I think that company makes a few other similar teething toys now.

  • Totally agree with Sophie - and also the Aden + Anais swaddles, burp clothes, bibs, etc. They are so damn expensive but I swear they are worth every penny.

Me too! There are about four items on my registry that make me really excited and this is one of them. I got all giddy when I I noticed it was purchased.

The Itzbeen timer was a lifesaver for me. Especially when myself, DH, and family members/child care givers were all taking shifts with the baby the first couple of months.. It shows when baby was last fed and changed, etc. There are plenty of apps like this too, but I appreciated leaving this with baby.
  • Ditto the Sophie thing. But in all honesty, with such universal, feverish acclaim, could this really even be a frivolous item? Sounds like a must-have for teething babies.

  • My two year old is obsessed with Sophie. Her Sophie is the daddy of some of her other toy animals. And she was still chewing his leg the other day when her teeth were bothering her.

  • We got DD a Sophie and she never touched it. Waste of money for us.

DD loved her Wubanub. We loved it because it made it super easy to find quickly and if it fell, it didn't voice everywhere. DD saw Wubanubs at Buy Buy Baby and insisted on getting one for the baby.

  • Apparently I need to get a Sophie.  I totally thought she was just a cute toy.  However, since I started teething at 2 mos. old, I feel I must buy two now.

  • Robeez baby shoes. He couldn't kick them off like other shoes and they were a breeze to put on and get off. It was nice to know that his feet were going to stay warm in the winter. I literally almost cried when DS grew out of this brand. They don't make toddler sizes.  :((

Yep. My kid loved it of course we ended up buying 3 because she kept losing her. $90 spent on squeaky giraffes...and I'll still buy a new one for this baby.

  • jennish11 's suggestion maybe I should get two so there's one for the cat, he loves to steal anything he can get his teeth around!

FTM here so I don't have any great finds to add, yet.

Luckily the dog doesn't like plastic, squeaky toys. It's her stuffed animals we have to worry about.
  • Not necessary, but I really love these nail scissors instead of nail clippers. It is SO much easier to clip baby nails, DD is 18 months and I still use these to do her nails. I got her little finger once or twice with the regular baby nail clippers. :( Definitely worth the $7!

  • I had a Sophie on my registry but thought it was a waste of money. Now that I know it's crack, must add back!
  • We went on our baby moon last weekend in old town Alexandria, Va and went into one of those cute baby boutiques. Kickee pants baby clothes have to be the most comfortable fabric I've ever felt. I bought 3 $40 onesie outfits... Not my best moment.... But I'm sure they're "worth" it ;)
  • @cmitch01 Did you know that Kickee pants brand actually makes adult size clothes too? I have one shirt and its wonderful.

We have the same one! It's the best best in the beginning.

  • I got a Sophie elephant instead of a giraffe. I hope it's just as crack-like for my LO.
  • I loved my Itzbeen timer.
  • I don't have personal experience, but all my mom friends say Sophie as well!  Apparently it's got a ton of different places and angles and textures to chew on, so kids love it.

They do have an elephant. They sell it at target.

It's probably a knock off - if you go to the original Sophie website you'll see that there is no Elephant. Hopefully your baby loves the little Elephant, though! :-*

That One Gal From Alaska :)

  • Oh we have the girraffe I was just mentioning I saw an elephant as a pp said.
  • I found the cheaper Target brand elephant just as effective as Sophie for DD.

A+A blankets/security blankies. I didn't believe it until I gave in and bought some. Worth every penny!
