Baby sister Hailey born 3/9

Baby Hailey born on 3/9/14 at 7:10pm 8lbs 6oz 19 1/2 in long.

At about 5pm on 3/8 I went to pee and there was bright red blood when I wiped. I stood up and there was quite a bit in the toilet too. I told my husband it was probably time and hopped in the shower while he called my doctor. She said better safe than sorry and I should head to the hospital to be checked.

I could still feel baby moving around and hadn't seen anymore blood since that first incident so we took our time. I snuggled with my 2.5 year old and we cleaned up the house a little bit.

We got to the hospital and got settled in around 7:30pm. By about 9pm my doc came in and said I was 2cm and she would check me again at 11pm and see if anything was happening. She came back at 11pm and said I was at 3cm and that they would go ahead and admit me.

I was induced with my son and the contractions were extremely painful. I have heard Pitocin causes nasty contractions so I told the doc I wanted to try to avoid that if possible.

I got an IV placed around midnight and they started me on fluids. All the monitors all night were driving me crazy. I had to pee at least once every hour or so and every time I got up we had to re adjust the monitors. Baby Hailey was not a fan of the heart rate monitor and was constantly moving to get away from it. I was seriously regretting coming in so early at this point. I got about 1.5 hours of sleep all night and my contractions weren't even painful yet.

At 7:45am when I went to go to the bathroom I felt a small gush of fluid as I stood up. I got so excited and the nurse said she would check to see if it was amniotic fluid. The test came back positive so I thought for sure my labor would kick start now. The doc checked me at 9am and I was at 4cm. I was so bummed. Again I was just wishing I had stayed home for all of this. At least I could have gotten some sleep.

At 11:30am my doctor came in and said it was possible that the fluid I was leaking was just the fore bag and she would check. Sure enough she felt my bag of waters and was able to break it. Lots and lots of warm fluid came out.

At noon my contractions started getting pretty painful but still weren't regular. By 3pm contractions were close together and super painful. I asked for the epidural sometime after that and the anesthesiologist was attempting to place it by 4:30pm. It was pretty uncomfortable and the anesthesiologist was having trouble getting it in. I was ready to cry because I thought she wasn't gonna be able to do it. Finally she was successful. It never fully took away my pain, but it took me from a 10 on the pain scale to a 5-6ish.

Right after the epidural was placed I was at 7cm and an hour and a half later I was at 10cm. The doc said she wanted me to labor down a bit more since I wasn't having the urge to push. I was feeling tons of pressure and contractions were pretty painful.

At 7pm my doctor came back in and said let's see how baby responds to some pushes during your next contraction. We did a few practice pushes and by my fourth contraction Hailey was out. She was born at 7:10pm on 3/9/14 weighing 8lbs 6oz and 19 1/2 inches long.

She was placed directly on my chest and we let the cord finish pulsating then my husband cut the cord. We looked at her in amazement for a while while I was stitched up and pushed the placenta out. Once the doctor was done I got re adjusted and brought her to the breast. She latched on right away with no trouble. After we were cleaned up a bit my husband went to get my son, Colin, who was in the waiting room with my mom. Hailey nursed for about an hour and Colin sat right with us.

We are all so in love with the newest member of our family.
