amniotic fluid leaking? *2nd update*

hi ladies! I'm a major lurker since about January but I have a question I was hoping y'all could answer. I'm not sure if I should be concerned.

a little intro first: I'm a SAHM and I have a 16 month old DS and due June 12 with my second DS (will come June 5 with a RCS) I'm permamobile and slightly technologically challenged so bear with me :)

I was wondering how you can tell if you're leaking amniotic fluid? I've been having intermittent cramping (BH maybe?) for the past 3 days and I've noticed I've been wetting my underwear and it's different than my normal pregnancy discharge. could it be fluid? am I maybe leaking pee? I have a call in to my dr but they are notorious for taking a while to call back so I thought maybe I would ask here too since y'all are so helpful to everyone else. thank you for any information you have

    I second PP. Peace of mind if nothing else. There's supposed to be a difference in the smell between pee and fluid, but I couldn't tell. My fluid was almost slimey though. Pee isn't slimey.

    I agree with Mztwilson only you and the doctor know your body so if your that worried go in and have them test you...... Fx that everything is ok.....

    thanks so much ladies! I think when they call me back I'll make an appt for tomorrow if they don't seem concerned enough for an ER trip. I didn't know there was a test they could do I would like to get that done.

    I agree with PPs.  Having them check is the omly real way to know.  When my water broke with my daughter it was just like having discharge - I really couldn't tell.  Recently I've had more discharge than normal.  I wonder about my water leaking sometimes, but it still seems like just watery discharge.  Hopefully your doc will get back to you soon!

    Yes! They swab the cervix and look at it under a microscope. Fun fact, amniotic fluid crystallizes when dry! I also heard amniotic fluid has the consistency of water and that it has a slightly sweet smell. I like your game plan though :)

    Everybody has offered great advice. With DD#1, I had a high slow leak at 37 weeks. I was convinced it was amniotic fluid but when they tested me they couldn't confirm it. My Dr told me to put a clean pad on and bring it with me so they can test that. Once I leaked fluid, I put it in a zip lock put in a new one and went in. When they gave me an internal, they still couldn't find any fluid but when they tested my pad, it tested positive. It may be worth it for you to catch some on aclean pad.
