Pregnant after 35

Joining you once again (hopefully for the duration)

Hi all:

Just wanted to introduce myself. I got a BFP a week and a half ago, and after 4 betas, I finally feel reasonably confident enough to post a hello over this way. I'm 42.5 years old, am married, and have a 2 year old son. I had a loss back in September at 8 weeks (blighted ovum), so I'm hoping this one sticks. I'm really early into my pregnancy (just shy of 5 weeks) so I'm cautiously optimistic for a happy, healthy outcome. EDD is 11/6/2014. Random stuff about me: I know far too much about pop culture for my own good, am still ridiculously close with my high school and college friends, and one of the highlights of my life was meeting Duran Duran after one of their concerts (I was 35, I think), and acting like a 13-year-old blathering idiot. Nick Rhodes totally side-eyed me. It was awesome.

Anyhow, glad to "meet" you all!

:)

  • Hi @HeathernSteven! I love Depeche Mode too! I saw them in concert way back in the day. I also went and saw New Order, PIL, and the Sugarcubes--another awesome concert. I also loved Siouxsie and the Banshees, and then bridged into NIN around 1992-1993. Ah, youth! U2 remains my favorite band, with Duran Duran running a close second!

When I saw Duran Duran, John Taylor ran straight to the tour bus after the show. As JT was my favorite member of all time, I was mighty pissed. I used to have an entertainment blog, wherein I wrote about meeting the band, and said that JT looked like Skeletor, and that was his punishment for blowing off his fans. Somehow, this caught the attention of Duran fans, because there were discussions about my insult on the official Duran boards. Some thought it was funny, others not so much. Oh well! I waited 20 some-odd years to meet that man, I was bitter!

  • @ProcessofBecoming I met JT at The Viper Room when he was doing his side project stuff around '98 -- doubt I would have had a chance at a regular DD show. I saw Depeche Mode a bunch of times, too! Oh my I was a music and concert-going junkie in the 80s. I still see whomever I can when they are touring! Last summer I saw Adam Ant in concert.

  • @beachgal72, The fact that you met JT at the Viper Room of all places, places you at an epic level of 80s/90s cool. He was always my favorite. I still know his birthday, favorite car, and favorite foods, which were burned into my head courtesy of "Teen Beat" magazine.

I love The Cure and the Smiths too! I saw Morrissey on his last tour. Still as misanthropic and mopey as ever. I also saw They Might Be Giants a bunch of times in the past 10 years. They're fun!

My husband is a huge Rush fan, and I've grown to really like them as well. They put on a great show.

  • Congratulations and nice to meet you! (I hadn't posted in this group yet when you were here last).  FX that this one sticks and you have a H&H rest of your 9 months!  4 reassuring betas is definitely a good start!

@processofbecoming ,  @HeatherNSteven , @beachgal72, and anyone else I accidentally missed, thank you for the 80's/early 90's "modern rock" references and reminiscences!  (hard to believe that music is as old now as music from the 60's that played on "oldies" stations was then)  Definitely bringing back memories and a desire to listen to the radio station that played all that stuff back then (WBRU in Providence - anyone?).  But it's hundreds of miles away now and also of course what was "modern rock" or "alt" then is way old now.  Like us.  Sigh!  Might have to dig up some cassettes from the basement and see if we still have a player that works.  Or mess around on Pandora except it's blocked at work.  Though you all have way cooler experiences ... I only ever got to go to 2 big concerts and with supper-crappy seats at both - the U2 one where they had Trabants (spelling?) hanging from the ceiling/rafters and the Cure (though sadly not when they were promoting one of their best records - I forget which tour it even was... it was probably in '91?).  Would have loved loved loved to see DM or New Order (or even better Joy Division though they were already no more by the time I caught on to them) or the Smiths ... or any of those other bands out of Manchester that were big at the time ...
