how do you handle this?

If you had a birthday for your child and invited there friends from daycare or school (5 year olds) would you expect the parents to actually leave the child at the party? DD is 5 and she was invited to one of her daycare friends birthday party and really wants to go.  I have no problem letting her go and taking her but I don't know the parents and do not feel comfortable leaving her there.  Is it rude to take her and stay? Or do you think this is assumed at such a young age?

Re: how do you handle this?

  • At five years old I would not leave my kid unattended at a party. Especially if I am not really familiar with the other child's parents.
  • Okay well I am glad I'm not the only one that wouldn't leave there child.  Thanks!

  • No. Still too young IMO...
  • Unless it's someone close, the parents usually stay at that age. DS2 went to his best friend's party recently at a venue. They are in kindergarten and it was a dozen kids. The host's next door neighbor left. The boy's mom said I didn't have to stay if I had something to do, but I just hung around.
