What happened to my napper!?!

Anyones LOs go through a time when they no longer take good naps? My LO will be obviously tired (eyes red, falling asleep at boob, being rocked, etc) go down and then wake up 15-20 min later. She will be eyes open, fuss for a few seconds, then back asleep for another 20-30 min. She normally sleeps for 2-3 hours during the day. She goes down with a full belly, swaddled, and dry diaper so idk what's going on. Growth spurt? Just not going to nap much anymore?

Thanks. LO is 5 weeks now. Shes doing this in her swing which is her solid go to sleep place. I hope it is just a phase. Makes it near impossible to get some energy boosting rest.

    Thanks gals.

I baby wear when she is fussy to get her to sleep sometimes but she still does the wake up and fuss thing. Doesn't solid sleep babywearing. I will try it again and see if it helps.

When she wakes herself up sometimes its bc her paci is in her mouth and she doesn't want it anymore. Sometimes its because its not and she wants it...so I do have to intervene. Maybe its the new norm. I just hope she's not depriving herself of sleep and making herself over tired.

Idk when babies go from sleeping a lot to two naps a day...

  • My LO will wake up for a quick minute or two make some noises and then fall back asleep.  He does this a few times while taking a 3 hour or so nap. I think as long as he goes back to sleep with out me having to go in there then were doing good on the napping.

@clb2196 - Thanks for the info. What is the wonder weeks? A website? Sounds like a gem if so. And yes, she does seem more alert/awake. She just laid in her swing for a solid 30 minutes just hanging out not making a peep. It was nuts! :)

The day LO hit 5 weeks and the 3 after were horrible. No naps, eating constantly, waking every hour at night. Nothing helped. Then Sunday magically everything was fine again, back to naps, 3.5 hours at night, more regular feeding. It also coincided with him sunndenly being more alert and interactive, have you noticed that? I checked the wonder weeks and it seems like all of that it normal for 5 weeks, so maybe yours is the same.

We are going through this exact thing ! Yesterday was 5w. Last night and today have been nightmarish! I have slept maybe 3 hours the last 2 days-LO has been absolutely starving every 90 minutes, eating 30, fighting naps.

Oh man @jackiep1023! My LO has been doing great at night, but last night wouldn't sleep unless she was in bed with me. UGH! I prop her on her Boppy next to me and my bed is huge and its just me but co sleeping still makes me a little nervous.

LO is at it again. She was up forever in her swing and I hadn't swaddled her well, so I got her out after a while, changed her diaper, and swaddled her in her pod. She fell asleep after about 5 minutes and now she's half awake after about 10 minutes. Oy! The child hasn't really had a solid nap all day!

I can't wait until we get on a solid routine and where each week isn't a guessing game!

  • I'm going through the same thing too...

LO sleeps pretty well at night, but for the last week he's been fighting day time sleep.  And when he's awake he seems to want to eat (or at least nurse) constantly.  At first I thought it was just a growth spurt, but we're going on a full week, so I think it's just a phase he's going through.  He will sleep for hours though if I put him in the car.  Even if I take him out after the drive he'll still stay passed out.  The other thing that's worked for us is wearing him (which PP have mentioned).  He'll conk right out when I put him in the wrap!

Soo ready for this phase to be over!

@CLB2196 Thanks! I dl'd the app and think its fascinating the theories here. I will be paying close attention!

Baby wearing seems to have done the trick tonight. She's been out for at least 2 hours now. I guess I just need to get used to the fact what works for her is going to change all the time. She's not going to have a sure thing every night.

  • Well, after a long day, MH gets home from work tonight, and LO is zonked out by him on the couch. Crazy-she has eaten every 90 minutes today (and every 2-2 1/2 hours last night)... And now she has been asleep for 3 hours!

  • So this is LO right now. Fussy all night up every hour. He will nap good in the morning 10 am to 3pm with a few up times in between and then up from 3pm til 11 or 12 with only a 10 minute nap inbetween.
