Birth Story
Tuesday 02/11/2014 - I had my normal weekly appointment with my midwife. I had been struggling to keep liquids and solids down since hitting 35 weeks.
My blood pressure was normal, but there was trace of protein in my urine. This may have been related to being dehrydrated. That afternoon, I tried gravol suppositories, but still couldn't keep liquids down.
That night, still feeling yucky, I went to OB triage. Baby E looks great on the NST. After 8 tries for an IV line, it was finally in. I got 2L of fluid and gravol so I could keep on top of meds. Protein was still present but the OB on call said it was related to being dehydrated.
Wednesday 02/12/2014 - DH left for his grandma's funeral 12 hours away. I packed my hospital bag just in case, since I was stll feeling awful.
Thursday 02/13/2014 - Still not feeling very well. DH finally comes home.
Friday 02/14/2014 - Valentine's Day. Hoping to go on a date, but still feeling very unwell.
Saturday 02/15/2015 - Slept late and went out for breakfast. I was still feeling very "off" and had a headache. I felt light-headed and out of breath as we walked through the mall.
For fun decided to take my blood pressure at the drug store in the mall. It was borderline high at 138/88. We went home to wait it out.
By 10:00pm, I continued to feel yucky. I developed a really bad headache and couldn't see straight. There was spots in my vision.
At 10:20pm, we went back to the drug store near home and my blood pressure had risen significanly to 164/103.
At 10:30pm, we called the midwife was headed to OB triage. On the way there, we stopped at another drug store. This time the reading was 168/104.
At 11:20pm, baby was doing great on the NST, but my blood pressure and my headache were still awful and there was talk of induction.
By 11:30pm, we had a pre-eclampsia diagnosis.
Sunday 02/16/2014
At 12:15am, the midwife checked me. I was 1-2cm and 80% effaced. This meant that an induction would most likely be successful since I was already in early labor.
By 1am, an IV had been started. I had a foley bulb placed. I was on pitocin, antibiotics for BGS. I was given a shot of morphine and gravol to help with pain so I could rest. Rob went home for our bags and car seat.
At 8am, the OB on call removed the foley bulb. I was at 4cm and my water was broken.
At 9am, I requested an epidural for pain since the pitocin contraction were rough and on top of each other. By 10am, it was successfully placed. I was at 5cm.
At 11:45am, I was fully dilated. While waiting for the OB to arrive, I was able to work on practice pushes.
At 12:15pm, the OB arrived and I was able to successfully push.
Baby Evan Robert was born at 12:56pm. He weighed 5lbs 15oz and was 20 inches long.
My blood pressure continued to be monitored through the night.
Monday 02/17/201
My labs were repeated to make sure that I wasn't at risk for HELLP from the pre-eclampsia. My platelles were back up, even though my blood pressure was still elevated.
Evan was circumsised. Blood work came back great on both of us. We were discharged at 3pm. His discharge weight was 5lbs 11oz.
Congrats to my TTC buddy Madeline! Cheering for all the strong 3T ladies!
