Does anyone have experience with these? Where did you buy it? Did it work?

TIA!

I actually bought one for myself during some horrible wisdom tooth pain and it seemed to help. I know a ton of people that swear by them.

ETA: Fuck you very much internet, i wasn't done.

I got mine off of BabySteals. I have heard great things about Inspired by Finn, should pop right up in Google.

  • I just asked a girl about them the other day because her little girl was wearing one.  She said it seems to be working so far.  She hasn't had to use any teething tablets or anything for pain.  It's something I've thought about using.  I know you can find them on Etsy.

  • No experience personally, we lucked out with DS and his teething (so far, knock on wood), but I have friend's that swear by them.  I think it really depends on the kid, but certainly can't hurt.  No suggestions on where to get them, though you see them all over etsy.
  • DS has one. I was not good with having him wear it consistently, but I do think it seemed to help with the amount of drool. I'll probably try harder to put it on baby girl more regularly. It worried me to have him sleep in it, but I know people who leave them on the baby all the time. Sorry, I don't remember where I got mine. Probably amazon.

We were afraid of it choking him too. At night, we were able to wrap it around his ankle twice, it was loose enough it wouldn't cut into him, but tight enough it wouldn't come off.

DD wears one and I swear it makes her a much nicer toddler to be around. When we forget to put it on after swimming she can be a nightmare! We put it on her around 3 months for excessive drool. We took it off at night and nap up until 9 months when we realized that she was never really touching it. Now at 17 months she will occasionally try to put it in her mouth, when she does we take it away for a day then give it back.

We got ours at a local cloth diaper store, best $15 I've ever spent, this baby will get one as well.

  • Our daughter wears one and takes teething like a champ. Also suggested the necklace to someone and she said as soon as her son started wearing it, his teething problems disappeared.
  • FWIW, I just found this on whether or not amber teething necklaces work/are worth it. I was trying to find some explanation on how these are supposed to work and this was what came up.
  • DD's been wearing hers since at least 6 months and she's now 16 months. I don't know if it works, but it's cute! She did get a bunch of teeth in at once it seemed and we didn't even know until we saw her open her mouth, so the fact she wasn't too fussy may be attributed to the necklace. I figure it can't hurt! I got hers at a local store, Once Upon a Child.

  • DS has worn one since 3 months.  It absolutely stopped the massive drooling and I've never known that he was "teething" aside for the extra night nursing.  We've never had serious issues with his teeth or molars coming in.  I have also started wearing one for my back.  We both wear ours 24/7 with no problems.

If you will search Amber For Babies on FB, they have daily drawings for free amber necklaces.  The lighter the stone, the better.

  • I honestly thought they were BS and NMS, but not wanting to constantly be pumping my kid of meds, I bought one off Amazon desperately in the middle of the night. I am now a believer. Key is for them to wear them 24-7 and to obviously be real amber and not amber colored plastic.

J has been wearing his for 6+ months now (he's 18 months) but I think we can take it off. At the beginning, I wrapped it around his ankle to sleep with footie pjs on. Now, he just wears it normally and it's been fine.

  • I tried one with DS, but it seemed to neither curb his drool nor his crankiness when cutting teeth. Ours was multi-colored, so perhaps one with all light-colored stones would have helped. I think mine came from Inspired by Finn, too.

  • I have been considering buying one for DS, but just read an article about the choking risks involved. I like the idea of wrapping it around baby's ankle though....

Honestly if you get a high quality necklace, that fits properly the choking risk is almost nonexistent. DD can barely get hers to he mouth, it has a break away clasp, and each bead is tied on individually. When we first got it and I was worried I would tuck it under the neck of her top. Obviously the choice is yours to make, but I don't see any risk to using the necklace properly.

If it breaks at all it's a choking hazard, whether or not the beads come off. The whole strand is the hazard.
  • I think they are snake oil.  But they look cute.  We breezed through teething with pretty much nothing but a mesh feeder thing with cold fruit.  Some kids have an easier time than others, some drool a lot, some don't drool at all.  I've looked after kids who wear amber or hazelwood and have seen the before and after.  Honestly, I can't tell any difference what so ever, most still drool and are fussy when they get their teeth, whether they wear them or not.  Benefit isn't worth the risk in my honest opinion.   I also would never feel comfortable putting a child to bed with one, but many of my friends do.  To each her own.

The other thing I don't understand is both amber and hazelwood claim to help with teething pain, yet one supposedly works by releasing acid into your body, and the other supposedly absorbs acid from your body.  I don't get it.

All 3 of my kids starting wearing amber necklaces at 5 months old from Inspired by Finn (lemondade in ). The only time we took them off was for bath or swim. I like our brand because if enough pressure is put on it, the necklace opens (its happened to us & it didn't break). Also each bead is individually stran so if it would break your child would get only 1 bead. We've never given our kids medicine for teething even with molars & their bedtime sleep was never disburbed while teething. It also cut down drool. For my kids I know it works because one time after a bath DH forgot to put it back on & the next day we had a very fussy & clingy toddler who wouldn't nap. By late afternoon I discovered the necklace not on & put it on. A few hours later she was back to our normal toddler. It works for some but not all, but IMO its worth a try!

I wanted to add not all amber necklaces are equally. The ever popular multi color beads doesn't have as much acid as the lighter yellow or whitish color beads.
  • i bought one for dd but put it around her ankle and not her neck- seemed like a choking hazard to me.  Regardless it didn't work at all and was a total waste of money.  get infant tylenol instead.
