CD moms: XS NB diapers?

I'm having this baby by 34 weeks at the latest, so it looks like investing in a NB stash will be well worth it. DD was in disposables for a few weeks before using our OS stash, so I have no experience with NB diapers.

My question is which brands/styles run smaller & fit extra skinny thighs best?

Our current OS stash includes pockets, Flips, fitteds/covers & an AIO. I have a few prefolds I stuff in pockets, but I have no experience with special folds or snappis. I don't mind a mix, but I'd like some Aplix pockets or AIOs for middle of the night changes. Thanks for any advice! Also, any tips on where to find good deals on used is appreciated.

  • I'd say little joeys would be the smallest dipe.  Although a 34 weeker probably still wouldn't fit in them for a few weeks.

  • Oh, I don't expect him to fit them very soon. He'll be in the NICU for awhile & may still come home tiny. I know it will be a lot longer till he fits OS though.

@kitchencolors‌ have you used kissaluvs? I've also been looking at GMDs.
  • I would recommend prefolds and covers. That way you can be sure they are getting tight around little legs.I love the GMD prefolds and their fitted version of prefolds are nice too.

I'm stocking up on NB dipes in case we go PT with this guy too.  I think I'll like fitteds the best for the NB poo stage, but I've also got a good stock of pre-folds that I got at a diaper swap.  I'm going with Twinkie Tush Teenie and GMD fitteds, and GMD prefolds with Bummi's super-brite covers.

I tried Kissaluv fitteds with DS1 when he was a NB, but couldn't get a good fit around his skinny legs, which is sub-par with above-mentioned newborn poo.  But if you have a chunker, I imagine they'd be fine.

  • DD was 5 lbs when she was born.  Out of what I had, the only ones to fit her at first were the GroVia NB AIO and Bummi's NB/Preemie pack.

I have bought some Lil Joeys for this LO and they seem pretty small as well, but much more expensive than the Bummis prefolds.

I think realistically the Bummis would fit from about 4- 71/2 lbs or so
