1st Trimester

8 Weeks - Feeling HUGE

Hi ladies! This is my first pregnancy and today I am 8 weeks 2 days along and feeling ginormous. I carry all my extra weight in the middle anyway so it's not like I started out with a flat tummy anyway, but it's growing increasingly harder and harder and harder by the day to suck my tummy in so that no one notices. I know everyone is different and starts showing at different times - and I don't even know if I am showing - but I definitely can NOT keep sucking my stomach in anymore. It's incredibly exhausting. Has anyone else had this issue this early? I'm thinking I might have to start telling my coworkers earlier than I planned, if only so that I'm more physically comfortable at work.

Re: 8 Weeks - Feeling HUGE

  • I suspected as much. It's so frustrating - my own mother is going to lend me her clothes. LOL makes me feel like a million bucks! Totally kidding.

  • If this were your second, I'd say it was muscle memory...I'm experiencing that as we speak...Uterus is like "hey I remember this!" and starts expanding already. I'm also experiencing bloating and that's probably what you're having as well. The bloating should go down in the second trimester. Good luck getting your maternity wardrobe already! I'm not ready to tell co workers either but guess I'll have to lol
  • I'm in the same boat and the bloat is killing me. I just started wearing my Bella Band (highly recommend) and it helps to keep things under wraps a bit. Plus, bonus, I don't have to button my pants :) Looser shirts are definitely the way to go, and you'll love having them again once you are post-partum as well. Good luck!

  • Yeah Ive had a lot of bloat.  I think mine was the worst right around 9-10 weeks.  This week its been a bit better, but Im constantly feeling full and bloated.  Im like you, I carry my weight in the middle and Im a plus sized to begin with, so I know how you feel walking around looking fatter then I normally haha.

  • I am only 4 weeks along and while my belly isn't hardening yet, I am already seeing and feeling the bloat.  The baby is the size of a  poppy seed but it sure is blowing me up already!  My jeans are tight and I hate squeezing into anything not elastic!  I feel the same way about not wanting to show yet at work, etc.  The same week I found out I was prego I got a job offer for a 90 trial, now Im hoping they keep me on board and I'm hoping to hide the bumb until late june!
  • You will feel a lot bigger than you actually look. I have been around my friends in early pregnancy while they complained about how big they were and I barely noticed, if at all.

And when you do start showing, it probably won't be too cute. For most women it takes a while to develop that cute, round pregnant belly (and some women never do). Until then it can be very ugly. I remember one of my close friends being upset - saying that she doesn't look pregnant, just fat. I bought her a short that said "I'm not fat - I'm knocked up!"

  • Cutting back on salt and making sure you drink tons of water can help a bit. And the bellaband is a life saver!

  • The one day I wore "normal" clothes the lunch lady asked if I was pregnant...so it's been flowy dresses with tights and loose cardigans all week. Everyone's been asking why I'm so dressed up and complimenting my outfits (I usually only wear dresses when I run out of pants haha) I'm also much more comfortable. I did tell my boss yesterday (at 10w3d). Even though I know its bloat, it's cute when DH says I "look totally pregnant babe" as a compliment. I can't wait til it's acutally baby, not bloat and fat!
