MOTN

12:30 is MOTN right?
After 24 hours of spitting up after every feeding, Abby seems to have that under control now. Think she had a reaction to the fruit I ate. Guess I need to stick to potato chips. Those didn't seem to bother her! She has a spot of diaper rash too. The rest cleared up but this spot is almost like a rug burn. Poor baby! Tried 3 creams and a&d seems to be doing the best. I read citrus fruits can cause spitting up and diaper rash if baby is sensitive to it. I didn't even eat that much citrus. Think the cut up fruit cup I ate over the two days had maybe 3 pieces of pineapple but the rest was watermelon, melon, cantaloupe. But as long as she isn't spitting up and her butt is getting better, I will avoid it.
So another question (asking here rather than creating a new post). I read it somewhere and it was more advice shared with me today...that sleep often improves once baby hits 10lbs. I'm reading lots of your posts about baby sleeping longer stretches and trying not to compare (3 hours is as long as Abby goes). And I think, wow, that baby is the same age or even younger. But Abby was born small (IUGR actually -below 10%, 5.14). At her one month checkup she was 7.6. She goes next Tuesday for her 2 month and I'm guessing she will be somewhere near +-9lbs. (From .5-1lb gain per day). So just wondering if you guys will share weight and the stretch of sleep your LO seems to get each night. (Can't see tickets on mobile). Sorry for babbling, it is how I talk. :)

Re: MOTN

  • DS hit 10lb by 2 weeks and was doing 2 hours or so then. At 6 weeks I am still only getting a 4 hour stretch max an he's pushing 13lb. I think it depends on so many things, luck included.

It's 11 here. I should really be sleeping but now we are in that grey area where he could be up any minute now. Sigh. Dreamfeeds don't seem to work with him so I shall wait.

Ugh, okay. I thought I was on to a simpler answer but guess 10lbs isn't the lucky number. I'm just happy she will sleep in her donut pillow and not on me everytime. So I should celebrate that more. (Though I still let her for a nap or two during the day cause momma loves the snuggles :) ).

  • We are up, only got 9-12:45, and we had been getting 9-2:30/3;00! And she is out cold after nursing- haven't even got to her diaper change or the other side! She was 9'14 @ 6 weeks and was only sleeping 2-3 hrs max and grunty most of the night. It was then that they decided she was reacting to milk/soy. It's been 2 weeks of eliminating and she sleeps so much better! Now we usually get a 5-6 hour stretch, and then a 3-4 hour.
  • We're up. Don't know what happened to the mythical 6 hour stretch we were getting but now we're back down to 4. I think dd is having gas issues again.
Poor DH is having huge guilt problems with putting the dog down after googling. He looked up vestibular problems and saw that dogs recover from them in a few days. I keep trying to tell him that the vestibular issue was a symptom of the other stuff not a stand alone problem but he's worried we jumped the gun. I'm at peace with the decision. I get very sad, but know it was the right decision. She was getting worse not better, and even though she was on the meds for only a couple days they said if it was gonna work she wouldn't get worse. The vet also said we were making the right choice, and I have to believe she would have given treatment options to us or told us straight up that there was a chance for her to pull through if there was. Sorry for ranting about my dog again....
I hope dd gets another good 4 hour stretch in...

  • DS finally went down at 8:45 after fighting it so hard. He started dozing at about 730 but just would not stay asleep. He just ate about 3.5 oz and is back to sleep. I think his reflux is getting painful for him, so I'm keeping him upright for a while now.

DS goes in for his 2 month checkup tomorrow. So we'll see how much he weighs. I'm guessing he's close to 10 lbs now

Idt that the 10 lb thing is correct. I believe it really depends on the baby and luck. my DD sleeps for long stretches and is 10 lbs, but I know other l/o's who only sleep for 3 hours or so and is more than 10 lbs.

  • Hey everyone!! So I think a lot of us are in the same boat. I always ask myself why can't our LO sleep in the same pattern and same routine everyday and every night. Wouldnt it make our lives easier?!?!?! Well after DS did a wonderful 6-7 hour stretches the last 3 nights we are now down to 4 hour stretch tonight. He went to sleep well at 845pm-1245am, I don't get it. DS is now 8 weeks 2 days ago, so maybe it's a development week-according to the Wonder Weeks!!!!! Who knows!! And he did great the last few days except yesterday(Monday) being more fussy and more cat naps than the longer naps he does.
  • DO NOT get excited about longer stretches of sleep at night. It's a trick - at least in our case.

Bentley's been sleeping a 6 hour stretch, waking up to eat, and then sleeping a 4 hour stretch. The trade-off is I get a grand total of 2 hours in 20 minute cat naps (unless I wear him/hold him) so he is cranky and over-tired all the time!

@jessicabcairns it's exactly the same at our house! DD is a great night sleeper, but barely naps! I have no idea how to fix this...

  • @rgoblue - My DH loves American Idol.  I'm pretty sure he's the only guy I know who is really into the show.  Although he definitely wishes he had tried out (he is a pretty good singer) so I think that's part of it!  I'm not really a fan, it's on so much and the episodes are sooo looonggg.

  • DS had a good almost 4 hours, but had a hard time getting him to go back down. he kept either fussing or looking up at me with the biggest grin. I love those little baby smiles so much I neer get over it.

He's back to sleep and now it's mommy's turn. Hopefully he stays out a few hours.

  • Pumping for the third time right now at work. I hate pumping. I miss my baby terribly. I am happy I am only working one night and not back till the weekend. I work in labor and delivery and seeing these new borns reminds me my baby Is not a new born anymore and has grown so much... makes me sad, time is going fast. I hope my hubby is waking up when she starts crying. Makes me nervous he won't hear her. :/

  • L fell asleep at 9:30 and woke up at 2:10. I'll take it! He's another baby that your 10lb theory doesn't work for. Here's the thing though- it 's completely normal for our babies to be sleeping in 3,4,5 hour chunks at night. I have to keep reminding myself that it's completely normal. These 8+hour babies are unicorns! L will sleep longer when he's ready. I think it greatly depends on luck!

  • A&D plus vs vasaline worked the best for DD's horrible diaper rash (she had diarrhea too and would cry and say "sorry" over and over. Broke my heart).

J is 14.13 lbs. We had his 2 mo check up yesterday. Turns out he gets fussy after shots instead of just sleepy. Add in the fact that DD also got checked for pink eye, ear infection, and fever, we all had a rough day.

So he just slept the longest ever. 915-400. So almost 7 hrs. Don't know if it's a fluke, because of his shots, or because I finally swaddled arms in. I don't think it's weight related though. While I think getting physically bigger helps with sleep, I don't think there's a magic weight number.
  • And we are back up! This is our usual first time up, and it hasn't even been 2 hours since we finished! Oh well. After dropping my son off at preschool, we could nap today!

Thanks ladies. I'm sorry so many are having shorter stretches but I feel like Lo is in a more "normal" range again. Thought almost everyone was getting long stretches. She did just go 3hrs 20 mins between feedings, which is a new record but in no way expected to be repeated.

@slmille4‌ - sorry YH is second guessing things. Sure it is part of his grieving. So hard when you don't have definitive answers and had to make such a hard choice. Maybe it is time to tell him what so many of us said to each other during pregnancy- step away from google. Trust the vets - sure if they thought there were any other possibilities, they would have gone with it. I'm sure he trusts the vets more than google. So he needs to just do that. Hope you can do something special for your bday soon to celebrate.

@roses87 - sorry you are back at work. Think I would cry being around all the newborns! Hope your shift goes quickly and you are back with your baby soon!

I think it has a lot to do with luck. DS1 was not a good sleeper until he was 6 months old. DS2 and DD have been good sleepers. DS2 slept through the night consistently since he was 6 weeks. DD was born Feb. 1 and she is sleeping in 3-5 hour stretches, and Ivan usually count on a good nap of 2-3 hours during the day. We give her a bottle of expressed bm at 10 or so which helps to keep her full. But she doesn't have reflux. She's over 10 lbs. just barely. My DH loves the movie The Devil Wears Prada. So random for him. He'll watch it whenever it is on tv.

  • My 10+ lbs DD has yet to STTN. She wakes up every 2-3 hours, 4 if we are lucky. She's a porker and needs to be changed and nursed. Its 10:30 here and tomorrow morning is DD's two month shot appt, which I'll be going in by myself with DD. Idk whether to go to starbucks prior or after the appointment, but I'm gonna need the coffee either way. >.>

  • We only got 3 hours tonight (usually we get 4-5 and he's 9.6 lbs) and that was with a little wake up meltdown in the middle. I think it's partially because we put him to bed too late. Ollie had his shots today though, and was sleeping for hour long chunks all day, waking up only to cry and eat (and it was such a sad cry). He's been running a fever, too. I know this is supposed to last 24-48 hours but I hate it and want my happy baby back now.

  • Up after seven hours between feeds. She woke up at two with lots of leg movement so I rubbed her belly and gave her a pacifier and she went back to sleep figuring she'd cry if she was hungry. Then I heard her again and realized my boob was leaking. Just changed the sheets too. Thought it would be like three at the latest, nope 5am. She was only fussing, not full blown crying so she wasn't starving right?

  • I kept hoping for the 10lb miracle... Not so much. LO is 10 weeks, was 11 lbs 3oz a week ago, and his longest stretch is 4 hours. Beginning at 3/4am he goes every 2 hours. Repeat: this too shall pass.

  • I have a MOTN question too. Is there any truth to "the baby will wake up bc he smells you?" LO spends the first part of the night sleeping in the living room with daddy. That's his long stretch. At shift change DH brings LO into our room. LO is up within 30 minutes every time. What the hell, baby? Do you have spidey sense?

  • @thegosiers‌ DD sleeps in a bassinet that I've pretty much side carred to my side of the bed. She can smell me all night long and still goes longer stretches. Who knows though? I've learned there's no rhyme or reason to what babies do.

No idea for sure but I came home from tutoring a student and Abby was sound asleep next to daddy. I made some food and walked over to see her and as soon as I got close her eyes popped open and I joked with dh that she must have smelled me.
