Anyone have a breech baby now or past pregnancy?

Hey all- I went in for an elective 3D/4D ultrasound to take a peek at our baby on Saturday. Well, he was covering his face with his legs and was holding onto his ankles---we didn't get to see his face What is disconcerting for me is that the baby is a Frank Breech right now-he has been head down this entire pregnancy so this was shocking news to me. On top of it, I do have an anterior placenta. So, I have been on the spinning babies website, researching chiro/acupuncture and am really starting to freak out. I am 29w3d and at this point I have read that nearly 25% of all women are carrying their babies breech and at delivery 3-4% will be breech. I am freaked out with the prospect of a c-section. I am one of those who want a hippie au naturale birth---without going into the forest---but at an alternative birthing center in a hospital.

Anyone have experience with this themselves? Am I worrying too soon?

Yup this was exactly me my first pregnancy. Do all you can now to try to flip him. I prefer mybreechbaby.org over spinningbabies. There is still plenty of time to flip, but the smaller the baby is the better your chances so do all you can now. Good luck.

I was head down @20 weeks. Elective 29.4 weeks yesturday baby was breech. This exact thing happened my last pregnancy and the baby moved on its own and delivered fine. I am sure your doctor will check closer to 36-38 weeks. In the meantime, relax and do some yoga to see if you can move the LO.

Mine was breech up until my last ultrasound at 27 weeks. It was quite a relief to see him head-down for the first time.

At my 30 week appointment (last week) the doctor felt around and said he still felt like he was head down. But over the weekend his kicks/movements felt low so now I'm worried he flipped again. But that might just be me being paranoid.

I've heard 34 weeks is the real "worry time" for a baby still being breech, because they wouldn't have enough room to flip over after that point. But that might just be hearsay ....

DS was breech, and I had an anterior placenta with him. He never turned and I went for a version at 39+ weeks and he still didn't budge. I think he didn't turn because his head was so big (it's still big). I tried spinningbabies and it didn't work. We are still early, he could flip.

Also I just had a patient who had a c/s because baby was breech in the office a couple days before she delivered. Then he was head down when they did the c/s. She was 39+, so you never know when they will flip. I don't know why they didn't check before the c/s but I didnt want to ask the L&D nurse in front of the patient.

She is still breech but at 28 weeks I'm trying not to be too worried and will try flipping her myself .

It is too early to worry about this. Most babies, as their heads get bigger, flip to vertex due to gravity.

Speaking from experience. DS was transverse until 25w, then frank breech until 34w when he flipped to vertex. He was delivered vaginally in the 37th week.

This baby is still breech at 30 weeks--the doctor said it's not anything to worry about quite yet.

I also want a very natural birth and my little girl is also breech. I'm hoping that she can still flip and I understand that there is still time, but like you I can help but have an irrational fear of her not flipping!

My first was breech until 37 weeks, when I got acupuncture. It worked like a charm, flipped her around. Until then, don't stress! Spinningbabies.com didn't help me, but do help lots, so give it a try.

There is plenty of time!

I'm assuming you had a C-Section with DH? Did they have to cut through the placenta? I also read that is common practice when anterior and mom's may need a transfusion.

You'd better bet if I find myself in the position of having a c-section for a breech baby, I'm going to request that they triple check position before I consent to having major surgery. But that's scary that it didn't get checked right before the c-section. How awful for that woman!

Seriously. They tried to tell me there was no point checking when my water broke. He still ended up being breech but I can't tell you how pissed I would've been if I found out that he was head down and they did a c/s anyway.

I think that is almost malpractice---I will do anything to avoid a c/s and to find out he is head down---heads would roll.

DS1 was frank breech from 6 months on. He never changed position at all (he still wiggled and I felt movement, but he never made any position changes). We now know that that was an indication of low muscle tone development in his upper body. His butt was wedged into my pelvis, and combined with the low muscle tone development, the doctors don't think he could have flipped even if he wanted to. (This was all learned in hindsight over a year later). I ended up with a cesarean. The anesthesiologist goofed and gave me a drug from a family that I'm allergic to, AND botched the spinal. I started having a drug-induced panic attack and had to go under general anesthesia. My H was rushed out of the room while they put me under and when they let him back into the room a minute later, the baby was already out, so we both missed the actual birth. They were in such a rush to get him out before the anesthesia got to him that they cut his tush during the opening. I struggled a lot early on with fears that not witnessing the birth of my baby would stop me from bonding with him. (spoiler alert: it didn't).

When I think of the ways I imagined giving birth to my son, the above was certainly nowhere in the picture. I'm not telling you what happened to freak you out, but to let you know that 2.5 years down the line (even 1, 3, 6 months down the line) it didn't matter. My son arrived in the outside world safely, we're both healthy, and there are no lasting repercussions from the birthing process.

tl;dr Not everyone gets their dream birth. Shit can happen, but in the end once you have your healthy baby, the process of getting him or her becomes less important.

My LO is still breech at 29 weeks. The doctor said she "didn't care" until 34 weeks. FWIW, the doctor told me I couldn't try and deliver a breech at the local community hospital, but I do have two large hospital choices within an hour and a half that will let you attempt a breech delivery.

I recently read on some medical website (like web MD or a similar one) that the majority of babies were breech at 29 weeks. Honestly, I don't think you should even worry about it at this point.

You are lucky-we do not have any doctors in the area that will deliver breech.

mine was breech still same as yours- her head is by my right ribs and she was in a pike position holding her feet with her hands. I have been doing the 30 second inversions off the couch a few times a day for a few days now and I just added having my DH hold a bag of ice up by my ribs at the same time (couldn't hurt) and I thought i felt more movement down by my pelvis but not sure. I also have an AP so feeling movements or limbs is hard! I will know next monday- the one good thing about being high risk is I will get a week by week play on her positioning but I also want as natural a birth as possible so her staying breech in not in the best interest of that! but there is still a lot of time left.

Mine is breech and I have an anterior placenta as well. I'm not worried yet. The day before I found out she was breech I know she was head down because she had hiccups really low. I feel like there's lots of time for her to flip.

My son flipped breech at 39 weeks after weeks of being head down. The baby can flip at any time and really unless you are 37-38 weeks with a breech baby then I wouldn't worry. My kid was breech at 27 weeks when I had my last u/s and I'm trying not to worry. Honestly, I wouldn't even worry at all if it weren't for my son having been breech but also know there are things you can try later on to get them to flip.

My dr automatically checks minutes before cutting a patient open for position.

DD was breech most of the pregnancy, but never turned because she was small (small head) and very very low fluid. This time baby is down, but I'm having a RCS anyway. I have never had my heart set on any one "type" of birth.

I asked about the anterior placenta with a c-section thing. Unless the placenta is low lying (like marginal previa), it shouldn't be an issue. If it is low, the doctor has to cut through it and just work faster. @emilygolden1 the transfusion can happen if you have a placenta accerta, which is a rare, serious complication. You are higher risk for placenta accerta if you had a previous c-seciton, have a low lying placenta and it is anterior.

This is my first baby. He was breech at my last ultrasound at 26.5 weeks. Today at my monthly growth scan (30.5 weeks) he had flipped! Yay! I hope he stays that way.

FTM and our baby was breech at our ultrasound 2-3 weeks ago. We have another scan on Thursday but I have a feeling she's still head up. All of her kicks are down low...my bladder is taking one hell of a beating.

This LO was breach today at 27 weeks. When I asked my OB about it she said they usually flip between 34-36 weeks, and at many women's 32 week scans babies are still breech. So, I'm also trying not to worry!

LO had been head down and j could always tell by his hiccups but he turned last week after I felt terrible and knew something was going on!

Within a few hours he had hiccups and I could tell he was breech and I got worried. Well he's back head down now! He's very active!

Went to the OB today and baby has flipped to footling breech. Plenty of time to turn, but I don't mind since I have no choice on a RCS anyway. Send me all of your breech vibes, ladies. I'll take them so that those of you with a chance at natural delivery get your best go at it.

29 weeks tomorrow and baby is breech. Can def tell bc her kicks are soooo low. Dr this morning said 1/3 of babies are still breech at this point and not to worry until 34-36 weeks. So I'll try not to worry! I too want to do everything I can to avoid a c-sec

She was breech for a portion of my 24 week ultrasound....flipped to transverse midway through because she is indecisive (like me)

I just went to my birthing class yesterday and the nurse brought in a yoga instructor. She had us do all different positions to help get the baby in the proper position. I know it's stressful but try not to worry you still have plenty of time for your LO to turn. Next time you meet with your MW or OB ask them about positions you can try at home to get him to turn.

I think it's too early to "freak out." DD was breech until 1 week before I delivered. I have read that most babies will turn by week 36. Don't sweat it. If you're really worried, do some of the exercises on spinning babies.

This girl was frank breech at our growth scan last Friday. The tech didn't seem too concerned, as there is still plenty of time for her to flip. I don't think they start to get "concerned" until 36+ weeks...at least that's what they told me.

I commented on this a few days ago. My LO was breech right around 28 weeks. Had my 3d scan today and she is now head down at 29w5d. She flipped and I couldn't even tell (I also have an AP). So it can happen!! I'm sure she'll turn a few more times as well.

A few things to point out.
All May moms are still way too early to be concerned about breech babies. DS flipped from head down to breech at least 3 times before delivering of complications at 37 weeks.
Secondly, PLEASE do not psych yourself out about a CS. They really aren't THAT bad. Some have I easier than others- my recovery sucked balls bc I was in the hospital for over a week afterwards having surgery on my kidneys and my bladder (related to different issues). You are still capable of having skin to skin time and have the baby go with you to recovery- you just aren't pushing it out of your vagina. It's okayyyy- I promise!
