Going back to work- clothes

Sorry this is sort of a woe is me post, I'm just feeling bad for myself. I go back to work in a week on the 17th. I have been wearing either sweats or my maternity pants since DD was born. I just went through my clothes to see what I could wear to work. I have nothing that fits. My maternity pants fall off, my big pants are too tight and I won't even try my normal size pants. I ended up finding 3 pants that don't look ridiculous with a belly band. I have about 6 shirts that fit, everything else is tight around my stomach. No point to this. Thanks for listening.

Re: Going back to work- clothes

  • I'm sorry, but I've been there too.  Even after I was back to my pre-preg weight, my body wasn't the same shape anymore.  I find less expensive stores like Old Navy very helpful in times like these.  You really just need a few staples and it is best not to have to spend a lot on them.  Even though it is painful to buy sizes you don't want to, remember well fitting clothes are always more flattering and slimming.

  • ((HUGS)) I still am struggling to fit back in my old pants these days. I got some of these in the meantime :

They are stretchy work pants that are vanity sized. ;) They at least make me feel a little less fat these days.

Huge Hugs! I don't know what I would have done if I'd gone back to work. I finally broke down and bought some jeans because I had nothing to wear. How warm is it there? Could you buy or do you have any dresses that fit? I had a Christmas party to go to about 6 weeks after Z was born and ended up buying a new dress that was forgiving yet would still work as I lost weight. I feel like dresses are way easier than pants! If it makes you feel better I've worn a belly band more post baby than I did PG!
It's not warm yet. I'm in Metro Detroit. I have till May before I can comfortably wear dresses without tights, my tights don't fit either.

  • I agree with @kklamb10‌ that dresses are the easiest clothes to wear. I don't get too dressed up for work ore dress casual) and I lived in loose dresses with leggings and boots for a while. It actually made me feel better because it was not tight and i felt like I was actually putting together an outfit (instead of sweat pants).

((HUGS)). It really is awful to feel like nothing fits.

  • Ahh yes... The wardrobe woes can be so stressful. I'm with the others who said they bought a few essentials to get through. Hope your transition back to work goes well!
  • This time period is a hard one, and you deserve to look good and feel good!

I bought a couple new wrap dresses to help fill the gaps with the clothes that fit (from my larger, but not maternity, days) but that I didn't like all that much. The wrap dresses were such good transitional pieces (easy to pump in, easy to BF right before leaving or upon return), and looked nice/professional as well.

Those may be worth checking out? I got mine from the Gap and Banana Republic.
