I want that chair but I'm tall - I heard it holds you pretty low to the ground.

  • Interesting.

Also, I think it's funny they put the ball on wheels.

  • Let us know.  I am interested, but an all around klutz.  I can imagine 5 or 6 different ways I could easily wipe out trying to gett on and off that thing.

I'm 5'9 and I actually think mine is a little too tall. I may just deflate it a bit.

@helenahhandbasket mine came with a cover on it so it's not slick at all :)

  • Ooo ooo funny story. I had a balance ball at home for the longest time, and it would sometimes serve as an extra chair. My mom tried to sit on it once and crossed her legs (at the knees, not ankles) and totally wiped out. Who tries to sit on a ball that way?? lol

In all seriousness, I think it'd be cool to sit on a balance ball at work. I'm short, so mine is too low for a desk, but it looks like the chair might bring it up to a good height.

  • @JackoftheBox‌ , you could check the size of the ball, and try to get one that's more to your liking? I sat on an exercise ball (without the chair attachment) at work for years (all nine years I was at my desk job). Love, love, love it. @KatieB19, I sat on it with my legs crossed plenty, heck, I'd even sit Indian style (nothing on the floor) on it. Butt hat takes some good core strength and practice. Also, you can often get desks lowered (at least they could at my work) or have a keyboard tray installed so you can at least type at the right height. (I'm 5'3".)

I would probably fall off and break my neck if i tried this! LOL
  • OK STFU @tiffanyberry I just took you last comment as a "challenge" and i can do it!! But probably only b/c there is a "chair stand" LOL.

Keep a hand on your desk for a while.

It does help break up the monotony of the day.  Besides, what else is there to do while your code takes 20 minutes to compile and then your simulation takes an hour to run and you've already finished your book?  (Ok, that was MANY years ago...)

  • There is a big caveat here.  make sure there's nothing dangerous behind you.  I had the ball I sat on at work in college, and even sat on it there.  One day, I was working on my computer in my dorm room and my husband (then boyfriend) snuck up on me, tickled me, and scared the crap out of me.  I fell over backwards (hard) and smacked my foot (on the top, between two toes) hard on the corner of my closet.  It hurt for ages, and there's still (nearly 18 years later) a bit of a sensitive spot there.

  • Oh god I can't stop laughing at that.

Don't get me wrong, I've worked on being able to stand on a ball - it's GREAT core work.  But that is <giggles> not the right way to do it.

Oh, I will be randomly laughing at this all day.

Not bad. My upper back hurts a little but i think it's b/c of the good posture i had all day with out slouching LOL. It was fun to bounce and move when i got tired or bored.
  • I am totally jealous that your work allows you to bring the balance ball chair. My employer would never let me do it.

  • I've used just the ball for about three years. I have one of the really large ones because I'm tall. I only stopped using it at about 8 months pregnant. I love it.
