Sittercity.com or care.com or something like that?

So, we just went to a dinner party with 2 other (kid-free) couples, and they said it was fine for us to bring DS, but I was hating it 75% of the time. He was either splashing in the dog water, running around, whining, or doing other things that are very healthy and normal for a 15 month old but not so endearing for an adult dinner party. The people's dog ate his sock, which was funny, and they offered to pay for it, but socks are like $0.50, and they gave us lots of nice dinner and drinks, so we'll call it even.

Anyway...we're in a new area and don't know a lot of people. I could ask the moms at church about who they use for babysitters, but idk if they'd want to "share" because then their favorite sitter might not be available sometimes. So have any of you used care.com or those other websites, and how did that turn out for you? Other ideas on how to find a babysitter? Thanks!

  • No advice, but in the same situation. We really need to find a sitter, but none of my friends near me have kids so no one to give us references. We've only been on 1 date night and a couple of other things like showers and weddings since O was born. It makes me so nervous to leave her with someone I don't know.

  • I used care.com and found a 2 sitters.  One we use twice a week and the other is more a back up.  They are both great.
