Grrr DH (vent/ tl/dr)

frequently on weekends dh will offer to take DD (2) with him to run some errands, giving me time to myself; I usually clean house, do laundry, etc. It NEVER fails though that he takes forever, stays out way past naptime, comes home with a tired hungry cranky bear of a kid and then it's "my turn" to watch her and he acts like it's so hard. I'm, if you could grocery shop in under 4 hours and not miss her nap it would not be so hard!! I'm glad he generally enjoys spending time with her, he just isn't very smart about it sometimes.

Re: Grrr DH (vent/ tl/dr)

  • DH used to do this. I agree with @CTGirl30‌ either have a talk and tell him what needs to happen, or just leave and let him deal

  • Yeah I pretty much always 1) try to get them out the door early so he can do what he wants before lunch/naptime, and remind him to try to be home by 12-12:30 and to try to keep her awake in the car. Today I said you know, if you've finished one errand you could just come HOME and we can get her to nap and you can go back out if you still need to do something...he gets it, just can't seem to pull it off.

I think ever since she was an infant I've been on the edge of oversensitive to preventing meltdowns/hunger/missed sleep etc and he's the opposite of waiting for her to flip out before thinking oh maybe we should leave.

  • Next time he does this, leave the house before he gets home and text him to feed her and put her down for her nap.
  • I agree with the others. You have tried to get him to understand through explanation multiple times and he still does it. Next time let him deal with the repercussions of keeping her out too long.
  • I'll be the lone voice of dissent. I love when my DH takes DD out for that long. I really appreciate the opportunity to be alone in my house.

4 hours gone? Yes!! I honestly don't even care if she comes back crabby...
