ski trip question

We're going on a ski trip next weekend. I'll be 23 weeks. I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on whether wearing an avalanche transceiver is bad for the baby.

Re: ski trip question

  • Where are you going skiing that you need an avalanche transciever?

  • I asked my Dr about going skiing when I was only 9 weeks (we had a big family trip planned) and he told me definitely not. I wouldn't want to risk falling and doing anything to harm the baby. Not sure about the avalanche transceiver but I wouldn't risk going skiing to begin with.

  • Sorry I'm also one who can't focus on your question since skiing isn't really the best idea at this stage especially somewhere where you would need such a transceiver! Have you asked your doc about this because I'd be shocked if he/she was supportive of this decision...

  • I'd be careful about altitude as well. My doctor told me no skiing and to be wary of altitude with my low lying placenta.

  • People had some pretty informed on this thread back in December.

  • Something tells me you're not skiing the Poconos.

  • I think a good rule of thumb is that, if it's a sport for which you should generally wear a helmet, probably not okay especially 2nd tri onward.
  • We just got back last night from a ski weekend and I did not participate in any skiing, however we live on the East coast and the last time I went skiing was before DS was born and in NC.  If I lived out west and skied regularly, I probably would have participated some (though I suspect I'd get winded pretty quickly at this point), but I sure as hell wouldn't have been doing any skiing that would have required an avalanche transceiver. Basically, skiing falls into that work out category to me of "if you were doing it before, then continue to do it until you can't/are uncomfortable" to me, so OP, I don't question your desire to ski (if it's something you regularly do), but I certainly question your need to do it where you'll need to be worried about avalanches.
