What does your LO like to eat for breakfast?

I am having a hard time trying to find something my son likes to eat for breakfast. The other meals of the day I know what he likes but breakfast time is always a mystery! LOL! Here lately he has been eating cold cereal like Fruit Loops and he loves turkey bacon but he won't eat pancakes and if he does he only will nibble on one or two pieces. He won't eat oatmeal or hot cereal. I haven't fixed him eggs yet. He always has some sort of fruit with his meals and he loves that. So I am trying to get some other ideas.

Re: What does your LO like to eat for breakfast?

  • I always serve fruit with breakfast along with what ever else they eat. French Toast, Cheerios, bagel with peanut butter, toast with peanut butter, eggs with cheese, waffles, muffins, yogurt, banana bread, english muffin, banana pancakes.

  • DD loves fresh fruit of any kind, yogurt, toast with peanut butter, bagels, scrambled eggs, granola, cheese...pretty much anything. She's usually starving when she wakes up so she's normally open to whatever is put in front of her.

  • Bagels or pancakes 99% of the time.  DD doesn't like to eat right away when she gets up - it's usually up to an hour later.  (Her father is the same way!)  But it's pretty much bagel every time.  And then it's - at best - half a bagel, which is why I put plenty of butter on it.

  • pancakes, scrabbled eggs with spinach, half a bagel with cream cheese and jelly, yogurt and granola, crepes, or toast and peanut butter

always with OJ or milk- depending on what she's eating and a fruit (banana or melon or cut up berries)
  • My son wakes up and within moments asks for a cereal bar.  So that's breakfast #1.

Lately he's been asking for a smoothie too, so I'll make him one with frozen fruit and milk.  That's breakfast #2.

If I make myself oatmeal, he'll ask for some too. That would be breakfast #3, although he doesn't always finish it, because he likes to eat cereal with DH, (breakfast #4).

His other favorites he gets from time to time are eggs, waffles, or muffins.

This made me laugh since DS was exactly like this when he was your DS's age--- breakfast 1 and breakfast 2, etc !! Haha, I forgot that. He has since grown out of it bc i was seriously concerned for our food bill :-D

  • eggs with some beef salami( only meat she'll eat, that and ground beef), grilled cheese, toast with PB, dry cereal with milk on the side, doesn't like it mixed together lol, crepes, and fruit with whatever she eats

  • Oatmeal is DD's go-to.  She would eat oatmeal for every single meal if we let her.  Always with some kind of fruit mixed in.  She has that or yogurt with fruit mixed in on school days.  She also loves pancakes, eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, muffins, bagels, cereal - pretty much any breakfast food, I guess.  She's a lot like me in that way - I would happily eat breakfast for three meals a day, and I think she would too.  We are not so lucky with other meals, though.

Also, there's nothing wrong with eating other foods for breakfast, if that's what your LO likes.  I had a friend who despised breakfast foods, and would have lasagna or whatever was leftover from dinner for breakfast all the time.  As long as you're hitting a variety of food groups throughout the day, I say do whatever it takes.

i was just about to post this same exact response!!!  except our kids are still young, but i was thinking about her grocery store bill!
  • On days DS goes to daycare, he usually eats a little cup of raisins before heading out the door.  They feed him breakfast there.

On weekends, his absolute favorite is a bowl of cold cereal with milk.  He normally eats the original Life cereal.  I always serve a side of fruit with whatever he is having.  Pancakes are his other favorite.

He is not a fan of oatmeal or scrambled eggs.

  • Breakfast is probably my daughter's favorite meal of the day.  We do waffles, pancakes, or toast with jam, PB, or Nutella, turkey sausage, yogurt, scrambled eggs, cold cereal (she loves raisin bran), and oatmeal. We also usually have banana, oranges, or berries with breakfast.

  • DS usually prefers cold cereal (usually some form of Cheerios), mini pancakes, or snack-size sausage biscuits, along with milk and some kind of fruit. Occasionally he likes scrambled eggs, but that's becoming more rare. I've given him non-breakfast foods too -- pizza, a corn dog, PBJ, etc. Basically whatever he'll eat that's not pure sugar.

  • i am definitely depriving my LO. he mainly eats raisin bran or cheerios. about 2-3x a week i make him scrambled eggs (or give him hard boiled eggs that i made at night). he loves bagels but we don't get them a lot. he also loves pancakes and waffles, but i maybe make pancakes 1x/month, he mostly eats them out at restaurants. sometimes yogurt, and some kind of fruit most mornings (strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, apples, peaches, etc.). i'll also sometimes plunk down some toast.

  • She doesn't!  I can't get her to eat anything in the morning...she just has milk.   She used to eat breakfast...she'd share my peanut butter toast, or would eat pancakes or these mini apple muffins, but now she doesn't want anything in the morning.  Hopefully just a phase!

  • DD is allergic to egg, so my list won't include them... and I feel your pain. It's her least favorite meal of the day. Sometimes she just drinks her milk. Most often, she takes a couple token bites and declares that she is full. Anyways, here are the things we have the best luck with:

Pop tarts - strawberry or cinnamon and brown sugar (the peanut butter are gross... she kind of likes them, but they're gross) she eats them cold
    Cold cereal
Pancakes or waffles cut into strips or "tiny little pieces" with a side if syrup that she can (and does) dip them in. If I put the syrup on top, she gets sticky and end game right there.
Toast and peanut butter or toast and jelly. I yank out all the options of toast toppings and she picks what she's in the mood for. Then she has to eat it because she picked it.
    Donuts
    Fruit!
    String cheese
    Cinnamon raisin toast
She used to like crispy bacon... but not really any more
And it's always okay to serve "lunch" for breakfast if he likes that better

Cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, and frosted donuts are out, because she scrapes off the frosting and eats only that.
  • My son is a huge PITA with eating.  He is so picky and won't drink milk or anything, either.  We've found that the drinkable yogurts are super awesome for breakfast time.  I usually pair it with some cereal in a cup or pancakes/waffles and always some berries or a banana or something, too.  That all aside, I can always get him to have a drinkable yogurt.  :/

  • DS is not a big morning eater.  Here are some things she does eat:  yogurt or yogurt drinks, toast, waffles, bagels, raisins (she is fighting me on fruit right now and this is the only things she will eat), dry cereal, juice or milk.

I think I need to try to smoothie thing.  I think she would drink that!

  • Breakfast is my son's favorite meal...waffles, toaster strudel, applesauce, eggs, muffins.  There are lots of healthy muffin recipes that you can freeze and just heat up.

  • We do:
    Waffles
    Omelets with cheese
    Baked oatmeal
    Regular oatmeal
PB & J sandwich (I figure the sandwich is no different than having toast, just not toasted)
    Homemade muffins
DD will eat cold cereal with milk- I don't trust my son not to knock that over yet.

Then I usually add a fruit:
    Sliced apples
    Clementine
    Cut up strawberries or grapes

Neither of my kids will eat bananas, but if yours will there's another option.

  • My DD loves sweet potatoe pankcakes! I make them myself. She also likes beet pancakes, and many other veggie pancakes. She also loves oatmeal, I know you mentioned your child wont... She is now really into eating cold cereal. She loves yogurt also and fruit. Turkey susages is also a favorite. Bagel and cream cheese. Just some ideas. Good luck, my DD's only good meal of the day is breakfast!
  • USUAL SUSPECTS:

    1. Soft boiled eggs and Toast or Wafer Biscuits
    2. Cut up fruits: Mangoes and Bananas and Grapes
    3. Scrambled Eggs with or without cheese
    4. Breakfast Cereal: Either Milo, Corn Flakes, Coco Crunch, coco pops, or Multigrain, or a mix of all :)

i love you, my little mooncake mahal kita

  • DD has an egg/peanut allergy so usually: safe egg free waffles/pancakes, fruit, yogurt, pasta and butter. I also use almond butter on waffles as well. Right now DD is in the middle of chemotherapy, so pretty much ANY food she wants--I give it to her. The chemo is making her appetite decrease so I won't fight food battles with her at all. (Sometimes that means she wants grilled chicken for breakfast!)
