Crazy things strangers say

What's the craziest thing someone has said to you that is LO related? Mine? I'm at the grocery store and a woman sees my sleeping baby. She approaches, looks at baby , looks at me and says "oh! Is she mixed with Asian or something?".... Ummm no but ok.

Re: Crazy things strangers say

  • Someone told me the other day that LO looked like an elf. Ummm ok?

  • A woman working at Footlocker told me that DD needed more hair. :|
    Oh. Ok.
  • This isn't really something that was said, but I went to the pharmacy to get DDs eczema cream and the one pharmacist calls all the other ones over to gawk at DD. I don't know why but I thought this was just so weird! I know babies are cute but my goodness there was 5 of them all huddled around her car seat talking to her and taking off her hat to see all her hair!

  • I had a neighbor, that I am not very close with, tell me all she wants to do is "suck my LO's cheeks." I was so scared she might actually do it.

Also, I bring LO to work and while we were in a meeting (it's obviously very informal) the buyer for the company I was meeting with came up and kissed LO. It was sweet, but I didn't even know her name at that point. It wasn't really along the lines of saying anything strange, but it left an impression on me.

Also, while I'm at it. I had a person who I had just met give me baby advise (that's a whole different story) because she "felt motherly since there might be a baby inside her." Agh!

  • I took DD and DS to the library when DD was maybe 2 months old. DS was looking at picture books so I showed DD a board book and started reading it to her. A woman came over and baby-talked to DD "Baby doesn't want to look at a book, she wants to see her mama's face! Say I'm too young for books mama!" It was so weird then she called over her teenaged daughter to see the baby and tried to play with DS until we left. So weird.

The only things that strangers have said to me regarding my LO has to do with the fact that I have two boys.. Like "oh that must be so hard (having all boys)" or "Don't you wish you had a girl??" or "Will you have another so you can have a girl?"... ugh! I have two boys and I LIKE it people!

Another thing that was said , not directly to me , but by one of my "friends" on Facebook , was a post yesterday saying " Did you know that 80% of moms who breastfeed long term have a four year college degree?" Her baby is over a year and she is still breastfeeding (good for her) but why say something like that? To me it was suggesting that women who don't breastfeed long term or that use formula are stupid.. IDK. It pissed me off..

  • It's not really a weird thing, but I don't see why strangers feel the need to tell us (me and/or DH) who they think our baby looks like. I get it, she looks like her dad. I have eyes and can see. Once someone said "I know you don't want to hear this, but that beautiful baby looks just like her daddy"... um, okay? Should I be offended by that? I just don't get it.

  • I think I look like a mean lady. No one comes up to me anymore. I think they are scared.
I get this. My co-workers tell me I have bitchy resting face.

Same here. I didn't really get comments or questions while I was pregnant either. Well, except for the 12 year old boy who waited for me to come out of the bathroom and ask if he could touch my stomach.

Yeah, I don't really mind it. A few strangers were probably saved from getting throat punched while I was pregnant.

  • I think I have the opposite of bitchy resting face because everyone talks to me. I've had strangers reach into the stroller and lift Zoe's hat up to see her hair. Or lift a blanket if it was covered. I get stopped by random people who stare at my baby and talk to her all the time. Men and women. But at least they all say she looks like me :)

I am like this but with kids. Wherever we go if there is any type of random kid without an adult they always end up hanging with me and my kids. The library, children's museums, mall play areas I usually end up with a kid following me while I try to figure out where the heck their parent is.

  • LO has an old school first name, an old guy asked me why I choose such a boring name... 'scuse me?
  • This just happened. I was in the airport yesterday with my baby and parents, husband and brothers. This woman sitting next to my mom asked if my baby was a boy or girl (meanwhile he was clearly in a blue outfit with a blue blanket). She told me I was too pretty to not have a girl (kind of offensive since I adore my son and I'm thrilled with a boy) and then in front of my parents she said she's an OB nurse from Canada and when I'm ready to have my next to have sex 5 days in a row 5 days before ovulation and there's a 75% chance it'll be a girl. Thanks, stranger lady. Will do.

People of all ages seem to like to talk to me too, and this is especially true for kids.

I had a student's wife (mid-to-late 20's) ask if LO was really mine because apparently we look nothing alike.

Um, yeah. That's exactly how I would read that too and I think it's a really annoying thing to post as your Facebook status! I would have been tempted to reply that it is probably because women with college degrees are more likely to work in a professional setting or office job where they get a decent maternity leave and are able to pump regularly after returning to work.

FTR I have a JD and my 1st was EP for a few months and then 50/50 with formula and eventually FF around 6 months. DD was EBF and we are now adding formula bottles so I can cut back on pumping during the day.

I have a PhD and I exclusively formula feed! (But then I do misuse your and you're so maybe it applies j/k ;) )

  • I have no idea what your friend's intended message was (obviously), but it may not have been judgmental... it could also be interpreted to mean, "socioeconomic status as measured by education level correlates with long term breast feeding success."

  • Just last week, the cashier at Freddie's commented on my baby girl's small size, like every stranger does (12lb 2oz at 6 months). She then proceeded to say, "it's good to have petite girls... Then you don't have to tell them they can't have snacks. I had boys and they were big eaters, but you don't have to worry about boys like you do girls." Uhh... WTF lady. I was stunned so I didn't say anything. What I should've said was I'm GLAD you didn't have girls to impose that kind of sh*t on.

  • This isn't really bad, but some random lady walked up to me in Target yesterday to tell me that I had to go to Sam's Club to buy some 101 lullabies CD. Apparently it's the "best thing ever" for babies. She was really intense about it. Then she went off to harass some Target worker, but it was odd.

  • I bring LO to the office with me.There's this guy that works for our sound system at work, he's in there about twice a week. Three times now he has told me the story of how his mother was a midwife for 40 years and he's seen all kind of deliveries. He get uncomfortably elaborate. Then he says to LO "I could just take you home right now." NO, no you can't. She's not for sale! It makes me so uncomfortable, like I don't want to be there when he comes in uncomfortable.

Some people just say shit without thinking of it.

I also have bitchy resting face. I don't like it because people are always asking "what's wrong" and when I respond nothing they act like I'm hiding some deep dark depression or something and look like they feel sorry for me. I'm fine bro, go back to work.
  • Are you ladies in Wal-Mart when these things happen? You know all the weird folk hang out at Wal-Mart right? I don't know, I never have strange stranger comments. I get beautiful baby comments but that's about it. I may have that bitchy look to me though, IDK.

  • I have another, though not from a stranger. A friend is a FTM and she and her husband were discussing their registry. He told me it was financially irresponsible that I spent more than $300 on my stroller and car seat. Ohhhh I didn't know you knew my finances SMH but that $40 stuffed animal on your registry should get more use than my daughters stroller and car seat ...?
