Cannot sleep!! Any suggestions for getting comfortable?

I did not have this problem at all with either of pregnancies before.  I was definitely uncomfortable and rolling over in bed wasn't easy.  But this time around I have not been comfortable for a few weeks and it is just getting worse.  I've had the pillow between my legs for a few weeks due to hip pain and it isn't enough anymore.  I've tried a pillow behind my back.  With my first two I was able to sleep kind of on my back but I cannot breathe in that position this time, and if I lie half way on my side by putting a pillow behind my back, then I need one to support my stomach too, and even then I can't breathe well for very long.  I'm out of ideas and tired of waking up every hour to roll over, which then makes me have to get up and pee.  I am exhausted!

  • And yes, whiny, too.  Sorry!  Last night was really bad and each day seems to be getting worse.  =(

  • LOL, I've been tempted!  I was just looking around online and saw that heartburn can make it feel difficult to breathe.  I did not have heartburn anything like this with my first two (this pregnancy has really thrown me for a loop!).  I'm wondering if that is contributing to being so uncomfortable!

  • I end up going on
My couch many nights, sleeping kind if sitting up which is actually pretty comfy.
I have the same issues you mentioned, unable to breathe on my back, terrible hip pain.
Someone did suggest a mattress topper to make it softer and help with hip pain, but I never got one.
Good luck:) hope you can get comfortable.
  • I have found that taking a warm bath has helped me a bit.  I also try to avoid any caffeine after 12.  I don't have a lot to begin with, normally one cup of coffee, but I have really tried to be good with that.  I also sleep kinda propped up.  A few nights I have ended up in a recliner and actually slept pretty decent.  Since I have been on the heartburn medicine too, it has helped.

  • Pillows just don't don't work. Get a snoogle! I swore to myself at the end of my last pregnancy that I would buy one. Best $75 I've ever spent. I used 5 pillows during my first pregnancy and I'd wake up during the night to adjust or to pick them up off the floor. At 23 weeks I started getting uncomfortable, back hurt, you know the story. I bought one at 25 weeks and I've been sleeping very well ever since.
  • Snoogle didn't work for me, but a regular body pillow (like you can get at Wal-Mart or Target) works great.  I sleep with it between my legs and kind of hug it with my arms.  I've also recently started putting a wedge pillow under my butt to keep my back more aligned.  The wedge pillow usually keeps me from rolling over onto my back during the night.

Also, if the pressure on your hips/shoulders is too much from sleeping on your side, you might try a memory foam mattress topper.  A queen-sized one is about $80, or a twin about $30 (depends on the thickness).  You can get these on Amazon -- next-day delivery is a life-saver.  You may be able to find them at places like Wal-Mart/Target, BB&B, etc.

  • Seriously at this point I take benadryl once or twice a week so I can get some sleep.

  • I've been taking warm baths in a relaxing bath soak and most nights ending up on my couch. It is so much better for side sleeping!
  • I have tried everything - warm baths, etc, and Ido hypnobabies before bed as well. I took half a unisom last night and I went from getting maybe 3 hours of broken sleep to getting 9 hours waking only once briefly to pee. I hated to do it, but once or twice a week I have to in order to get some rest.

  • I'm having the same trouble. I think getting this baby out of me will be the only thing that helps me!

  • It's possible to get comfortable during pregnancy?
  • I have a friend who said she spent the last few weeks in her recliner.  We don't have one and no space for one (though we talked about making room because we'd both love one)!  I have considered just moving to the couch and seeing if that helps, but I'd hate to do that for 6 weeks or so.  And LOL at is it possible to get comfy during pregnancy?!  This pregnancy I'm rarely comfy, that's for sure!
