Amazon mom& prime tips?

I just started my 3 month trial for Amazon Prime & Amazon Mom. I've seen it mentioned in threads here and there- anyone have any tips or tricks maximize benefits? Do you find it to be worth the $79 after the trial ends?

Re: Amazon mom& prime tips?

  • Yes and yes! I've had packages delivered on a Sunday before. Love it

  • I've used Prime for a long time.  We order a lot (maybe 60-70 orders between H and I each year), so the free shipping more than makes up for the membership fee for us.  The prices are usually competitive with stores in town, and we don't have to wait till the weekend, then spend all day running around to lots of different stores.

We haven't used Amazon for grocery items or subscribe-and-save, but I imagine that we will use it for diapers and such when the baby comes.

  • I love it! Especially when they have the best price on items and they are at your door in two days.
  • I've had it almost since the beginning.  I definitely think it's worth it, and the extra stuff like streaming videos is just the icing on the cake.  It basically pays for itself at the holidays, alone.

  • I've had prime for years and love it. We use it several times per week and save a ton of money. Free shipping and no tax really does add up. I've also found over the years that the more you order on amazon, the more you see there is to buy on amazon. It's a vicious cycle! :)
We regularly buy wipes, pumping bags, Burt's Bees soap for DD, books, toys for DD, and diapers (although the diaper sales at Target end up being cheaper sometimes). My DH buys all kinds of crap- hunting/outdoorsy stuff, car parts, speakers, whole bean coffee.... Literally, a package almost daily.

  • Certain items qualify and you set up automatic shipment every 1-6 months. They ship free (even without prime, I think) and you get a 5-20% discount depending on how many items are in your monthly shipment.

  • So my extremely high level excitement seems justifiable! Excellent! I have to look into subscribe & save and adding users- is it like linking accounts? This may be stupid, but can the other users see what you buy? (I'd probably share with my dad and BIL, and they wouldn't want to know about feminine products & cheesy chick lit books etc..... haha!) thanks for the tips!

  • If you have a .edu address, you can get half off prime membership.  Between DH finishing his masters and me working slowly on an advanced degree, we've never paid full price.

  • It's also awesome for last minute birthday gifts - they arrive in 2 days with prime, can't beat that!

  • i don't think different users can see the other person's shopping history.  my husband specifically created a separate account for himself before christmas time so he could order things for me without revealing what they were.  we had a few slip-ups where i'd suddenly get an email in my inbox that told me exactly what he had ordered...  whoops!  there goes the surprise!
  • You can't see who's buying what when you share prime benefits, no. You also can't access each other's payment methods.

  • Well I was just lurking at this post but you all sold me on it! And I have an edu. Address so I am for sure signing up!

wait....you get tax free with prime???

  • Thanks! I see now that it's just the shipping that's shareable not streaming & kindle borrowing. Now I'm searching around for an answer to this one- when you subscribe & save can you switch out items? Say I have my 5 items s&s to get 20% off- but this month I have an over abundance of wipes but I need body wash- can I switch items or does it have to be the same items every delivery? I'm hoping I don't sound like a total idiot- I appreciate the input. I LOVE a good deal! :)

  • You can switch things around and delay shipmentsandcancel or whatever. As long as you have five items. I have been known to add something to s&s for just one shipment then cancel it. But that batch of stuff only ships once a month.

  • When I look at my registry, there's a banner that says "Get your 15% off now" or something.  I just used it the other day.

  • what rachel said re: needing ANY 5 items to get the 20% discount.  i play around with my subscriptions monthly...  sometimes i'll order something i don't particularly need (for example... i have about 5 extra bottles of my chewy vitamin D right now) because it gets me the 20%....  then the following month i'll just skip my delivery altogether because i know i don't need 5 items.  this month i forgot to delay my 3 subscriptions and they auto-shipped with only a 5% discount, and i was so bummed i didn't get the full 20% off!
  • Currently shopping amazon for lactation cookie ingredients! I may never go to a regular store again! HA!

I didn't know this! I have a lifetime .edu account as an alumni. Hmmm...I might have to consider this now.

I have a .edu account, and it's trying to charge me full price for Prime. Is there something else you have to do to get the discount?

@MrsEll‌ Re: the .edu thing- I've never tried it but are you trying to sign up for prime or "amazon student" I think the sign up is different. Edit: tag error

  • I have amazon mom and still share prime no problem.

  • On sharing an acct...can it only be one address for shipping? I'm wondering if I should be sharing with my parents since they also have.

On prime itself...I am the cheapest most frugal person ever. I was mad that we signed up after we took a trip and bought about 8 books on kindle, so a minimal discount on kindle books shows my cheapness. And I LOVE prime. The lack of shipping has paid it's fee in just a few months and I save so many trips- no more just going to buy a ream of computer paper or another random single item. It is addictive though, especially when some thugs arrive in a day!
  • No you don't have to share shipping addresses or anything. I share it with my husband, but also my sister who lives in ca.

You've been able to add new users even after signing up for Amazon mom? I have Prime, and the sharing issue the only thing that's been holding me back from Amazon mom.
I'm pretty sure I shared it with my sister after I was already on mom, and almost positive I was already on mom when I shared it with my husband. Iu ant imagine how or why one would impact the other.

  • A million times yes. I love my Amazon Prime. I've easily made my money back on shipping, shows and movies, and not having to run to the store for stuff like shampoo with the subscribe and save.
  • What's the difference between Prime and Mom?
BabyFetus Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • The registry aspect was briefly mentioned earlier in the conversation but that was really big for me. I made a registry simply for the 15% completion discount. Your registry has to be active for at least 14 days and the discount starts within a month of your due date. I got 15% off and free 2 day shipping on some big ticket items that I needed. So awesome!
  • The student discount for .edu addresses sometimes requires you to email them a transcript to prove you are still a student. Well worth the hassle to save money on the membership.
