Little beaver is devouring his crib

Sooo Rhys is currently upstairs refusing to nap and also eating his crib. Is this unhealthy? Should I do something? I heard a weird noise, and when I went up to check on him, he had flecks of white on his face and I can clearly see where he has been gnawing on his crib. Ughhhhh!!!!! Anyone else deal with this? I know they make different products to protect the crib. Reviews? Feedback?

  • It's super common so I can't imagine there would be too much harm in it (besides for the crib). I have yet to deal with this but a coworker of mine got the crib protectors that they sell at Target and she said they worked well for her.

  • I made the fleece guard rail. It was a 3.00 project no sew and super quick

  • We got a cloth guard rail and it has worked wonders! And it has hooks for her toys so she entertains herself in the morning. Win win!

  • My Dd has the same issue. When she wakes up she goes to the same corner of the bed and stands. And likes to gnaw on it. They have protectors for like $20 a piece at places like buy buy baby or babies r us. I had some fleece crib savers pads. So I tied those to the crib. I also put a receiving blanket under these on the one corner she was gnawing at most! Seems to have done the job for me. Just hated to see our expense crib get damaged ;)

We have this one also. I especially love that you can hang toys from it. It gives me some extra time to lay in bed because he entertains himself! :)

I read the first sentence as there can't be too much HAM in the crib. Time for bed...

We are having a similar problem...notice the pic (older sister's bed)!  He has some major teeth coming in so he is biting everything in sight.  I'm going to look into these guards just to be safe.

  • Any crib sold in the US should be far from toxic. That goes for any painted wood toys too. Both of mine teether or choices have been a set of painted wood animal blocks. Pine must have the perfect give for achy gums! :) The only thing I would worry about is your LO actually getting enough damage done to possibly get a little hunk of wood loose. There are commercially made rail guards made of a soft but durable plastic. Or if you're the crafty type, a padded bumper for the rail is pretty simple to make. Wish I had known about teething babies penchant for wood before my first destroyed his crib just for the sake of keeping the crib nice!

  • I actually used the bumpers from his bedding set as railing protectors...he's not a chewer though, so I took them off after a while.

  • DD started this a week ago, but it looks like she started 3 months ago. I was planning to go to toys r us and pick up one of those rail covers but now I may do the DIY covers. It'll look fancy ;)
