Actual Pooping PSA from my OB

I know I start the weekly poop thread, so when I actually asked my OB about some of the issues that I've been having, and some others have mentioned as well, I figured I'd share my answers:

It is normal to feel like your insides are outside of you, especially after you strain.  You can gently push things back in, and should do kegels at the same time because it engages those muscles and will help.  If you end up with a pain that won't go away, call your doc.

Hemorrhoids are also normal, but should be soft.  If they become hard, like a frozen pea, it means something twisted and you need it treated asap.  Call your doc.

Constipation is also normal, however, if you go two days without anything, start on a stool softener.  Take one a night, and then up as needed until you see results.  If I go more than three days without a bowel movement, I'm supposed to call in.  As someone with a history of IBS symptoms, this seems very early to be concerned, but if she wants me to call, I will call.

There you go!  Hope this helps.

  • Am I the only one that goes so infrequently that I couldn't tell you if it has been 3 days or 5? Lol. Maybe I should start a poo diary.

    Nope. This is me too!
