I have a few: 1. If you're using the blue desitin, try the purple (has more zinc oxide, also available in target brand) 2. Naked time...as much as possible 3. Mix baking soda in a warm bath and let him sit in it for a few minutes then air dry and apply purple desitin
Good luck. I hate diaper rash...and congrats on making it to 9 months before getting one!
3 ectopic pregnancies (EDD's 1/30/12-tube removed, 6/2/12-methotrexate and 10/2/12-methotrexate)
IVF and Natural FET resulted in BFN's and a hole in our wallets
Natural BFP #4 on 9/7/12 gave us our miracle on 5/18/13
Thanks, @delino, I will grab the purple one. He had some naked time last night and peed all over the livingroom floor! My H was like "why doesn't he have a diaper on?!" Umm..gotta let it air out dude.
Mine just had his first diaper rash also. I had every deist in known to man an none of it worked. Got the butt paste in the red tube and it was clearing up within hours!
Desitin usually works wonders for us. We had one that lasted about a week recently. We used Triple Paste and it worked well. The pedi also recommended Vaseline and to use wash clothes or cotton balls for dabbing rather then wipes. Also a lot of nakey time!
Ours ended up being a fungal infection / yeast infection and we needed prescribed cream. If it lasts more then a few days call the pedi.
I've actually found that the A&D prevent tube works better on existing diaper rash than their treatment version. You need to make sure that baby's butt is very dry before putting it on so it doesn't seal in moisture.
Naked time, warm bath with no soap, and frequent changes. Good luck!
My favorites are Boudreaux'a Butt Paste (I prefer the green tube) and Aquafor. I feel like the Butt Paste is both preventative and healing, but the Aquafor is amazing at healing quickly.
When DS had his really bad on my sister ran out and grabbed A&D and it worked GREAT! I'll also second the naked time. We try to do some in the evening before bed.
I second A&D and strangly, the prevent one rather than treat. Desitin does nothing for us! Good luck!!

This just made me lol!
We use Triple paste for every diaper change. It's been good to us
Dd gets diaper rash all the time due to being yeast prone according to the doctor. We use the yellow desitin (no zinc) and have a prescription cream for when it's really bad.
We couldn't find anything that worked for us so our dr recommended calmoseptine. You have to ask for it at the pharmacy. Not a Rx but behind the counter. It is a miracle cream. Terrible bleeding bottom was almost cleared overnight. It also has menthol so it cools their bottom.
