Lucas Fidel was born March 5, at 2:54am, 6 lbs 5 oz, 20 in long. (long post!)
Birth story:
On tuesday March 4 at 4am, my water broke at home, i called my doctor's office and they told me to go into the hospital to verify, we arrived at 6am, and once they verified that it was in fact broken they admitted me. We were in triage for 6 hrs because there were lots of babies being born, the baby and my contractions were being monitored while in triage and they were not progressing.
At noon we finally go into a delivery room and my contractions again still had not progressed, so they decided to induce me and pitocin was the way to go, after about 3 hours of pitocin i felt the contractions getting stronger, but the monitor was not reading them as being very strong, so pitocin kept being hiked up, i also was showing high blood pressure. i went another 4 hours with contractions and slowly progressing, only about 2cm at that point, to me the contraction pain was high and i was debating about epidural, i wanted to try to go without but in the end it seemed like the best option.
the epidural wasn't as bad as i imagined, they kept in a low doze most of the time, and for the most part only felt pressure, and no pain, it was just a long long wait since we had been in the hospital since 6am, around 11pm, i reached 7 cm dilated, the OB said it shouldn't be much longer, soon after even with the epidural and clicking the extra doze button on it, i was feeling the pain from the contractions.
2:30am came along and was checked, i was ready and was ready to push! Lucas Fidel was born at 2:54am on wednesday March 5th, he is named in honor of my dad (his name was Fidel Lucas, so we switched the names) a long 23 hour labor, i have to say it was made easier because my DH was there to support me and my mom but also there was a Rocky marathon on AMC, and i really was hoping Lucas would be born during Rocky 4 (my favorite movie in the entire world, i know i'm weird) it would have been awesome if he was born right when Rocky beat Drago!
it's been quite an emotional roller coaster and i wouldn't change it for anything, Lucas is a healthy beautiful baby boy, we are trying to breastfeed, tho it is posing it's problems, but hopefully we can get past those as we learn to be with each other and just thrive as a happy little family unit.
Sorry so long! and good luck to all the mommies who still haven't had their babes, and any tips from the mommies have have outside babies?
Edit: added pictures!
