MOTN

What time is it again? I really don't like time change. For some reason I can't wrap my mind around what time it really is vs what my body thinks it is.

How did you and your LO handle the time change? Did you change your bedtime routine?

We went cold turkey. Put him down at 800 last night (which will be 9 tonight...right?) and he slept til 130. So 130 now is like 1230 to my body, I think. So J slept 4.5 hrs. Not his best, but hopefully we can adjust to time change.

Telling time is hard especially when that time doesn't involve a lot of sleep. :S

Re: MOTN

  • And I forgot the time just changed at 159 am. So I guess he got 5.5 hrs?

    My brain hurts.

  • Aw man I forgot about the time change. I knew about it but until I saw this thread it reminded me. i didn't to b anything to prepare because even when I do try to put her down early she determines when she goes to bed. We have been trying to get it earlier each night. My ideal bed time for her its 8. Last night we went down just after 1030. Now that she is 2 months hopefully she can start learning somewhat of a routine.

    Its a surprise! Team green!

  • Yeah, it's all very frustrating to me because I was already trying to get L to go down earlier but now I think we are working backwards? He ate at 8 and fell asleep around 9 ( which is good because usually he falls asleep around 10, but then he only slept until about 1. So that's 5 hours since he ate, and 4 hours of sleep. I guess those are good numbers so far for tonight, I have a feeling tomorrow night is when we will really feel it. Eek!
I'm hoping he falls asleep for another 4 hours but he usually only does 1-2 after his long stretch. FX there's a first time for everything!

  • To me, the time change doesn't matter (yay for mat. leave!).  I figure the clock will just say an hour later than it would otherwise but our routine won't change.  Now if I had to work on Monday and needed to make sure he gets up at a certain time, that'd be a totally different story!  But I have a couple of weeks still and our schedule is loose enough that it should be easy to adjust by then.

While I hate 'spring forward' in general because I <3 sleep, there's one benefit: Last fall, we did some decorating in the master and hung up this really nice clock on the wall.  I hate putting holes in walls so we used those 3M sticky picture hanger things by attaching that on the edges of the clock.  As soon as we got it up there, I realized it will be a total pain in the ass to get down, so the clock is now wrong half the year.  The last 6 months, it's been off an hour, so now the clock is finally right!

  • Yup, totally forgot about the time change this morning. I thought DS2 had just slept 8 hours, so he actually slept 7. That's also a mini miracle so I'm super excited!

I hope everyone is getting some good sleep tonight.
  • Up again. So he went 130-430 but it only counts as 2 hrs thanks to spring forward:(

No changes because we don't really have any kind or real routine yet. Not on purpose but things happen around the same time without us trying. It depends on if Abby wants to cry about everything or she is ready to sleep. She still only slept 2 and 3 hours between feedings tonight, with the time change, I think. I'm thinking tonight , things will be off an hour (for everyone). But since I'm still home, it doesn't matter much. Abby didn't sleep any long stretches but they have all been in her donut pillow. I even put the pillow on the floor so we have out bed to ourselves. (And took advantage of that, I'd just like to add. ;) )

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • And we're up. M was very cranky last night after napping horribly all day. Got him down around 10, then back up at 12:30, which dh took. He woke again at 3:30 (old time) but fell back to sleep after a little cuddle. Of course then my boobs are screaming for relief and I considered pumping, but I know in all likelihood he'll be awake in an hour to eat so I decided to go ahead and shove a boob in his mouth and hope it didn't wake him you much. Fingers crossed my decision doesn't backfire.

Stupid time change when you have a newborn...

I guess it didn't really affect me, I'm not going to try to wrap my brain around how many hours of sleep she actually got. We did have a better night than the previous two, so that is the main thing. She also seems to be doing less gulping and spitting up than earlier, so I'm hoping that her reflux has settled down for her - it was a bit of a rough day for my poor girl.

It is now almost 5:30am here and I am still feeling quite tired but I don't know if I'll go back to sleep or not. I have so much to do and even though I'm tired, my brain will go a mile a minute trying to figure out how I'm supposed to get everything done so I won't really sleep anyway.

  • Time change will be good for us, I think, since this stinker likes to go to bed at 7ish. Later will be better. But I'm still pissed about losing an hour of sleep tonight!

  • What is this time change you all speak of? My brain hurts from trying to calculate the time zones with everyone. Lol.

  • Not sure how time change will effect things. She just did five hours between feedings but it looks like six e cause of the time change. I'm tired and daylight savings doesn't help that.

  • I don't really find the time change confusing I guess. ::shrugs:: Sleep deprivation probably makes it worse though, I would imagine.

We're getting much better stretches of sleep and I am hoping the time change sets him up to go to bed just a little bit later. Then I think I might actually be able to consider him to be mostly STTN.

I guess the time change really doesn't bother me. Up for the first time, DS went a whole fricken 7 hours last night. Went from 10pm-5am. That is crazy talk. He had a 6 hour stretch the night before and went from 9-330, BUT I couldn't get him back down until 615am. So I really hope he doesn't do that now. Crossing fingers. And I actually slept a whole 3 hours straight, yahhhh me!!
    Happy Sunday everyone

Lo has been sleeping fabulously these last two nights.which I love but I still wake up to check on him. But to also yell at the hubs. On the weekends he participates in motn feedings but he's been sleeping much harder these days so I literally have to yell at him and sometimes kick him to wake him up fully to take care of his daddy duties.
  • DSL made no difference for me since DS is still sleeping 2.5-3 hour stretches. It screwed with me. I thought I slept really well and for a whole 7 hours (SO takes care of DS at night so I can sleep), but no. After I made my coffee I realized it was 7am. Ugh!

  • @ashleyfinn23 -- we have a rule in our house. If he wakes the baby, he gets to either put him back down or take care of him until he falls back asleep. A death stare is not a compromise.
  • Holy cow. LO did his first long night sleep (5.5 hours)! Hallelujah! When I heard him crying at 3:30 this morning I immediately got up to nurse him, when DH said "I haven't given him his bottle yet." I thought I had DSL brain!

Hopefully this trend will continue. At almost 10 weeks I really thought we would have at least 5-6 hour sleeps consistently.

  • I missed my MOTN posts because my stupid mobile app wasn't working!!!!
LO slept pretty much from 9 to either 2 or 3. Not sure with the time change :). DH did have to rock her a but around 11 but she was fine after that, which was good because there was some drinking that needed to be done on my end. We also camped out in the living room because indie can't see out of one eye now so we wanted to make it easy for her.

  • L slept from from 9-1 ate and he was up for over an hour. He then continued to wake up and nurse at 3:30,5:30,&7:00. He ate again at 9:30 this morning but has basically been awake since 7. I'm hoping this is a fluke, but I guess it's possible we're hitting another growth spurt? I've finally gotten him rocked to sleep and don't plan on moving for the next couple hours. lol

Andplusalso my Bump app is not working correctly.
