Hi,
I had my first prenatal appts today and yesterday at the Johns Hopkins Hospital (it is my first pregnancy). As I read some low opinions about the staff there, I want to share my experience:
When I came there yesterday, everyone was really friendly and helpful. The appointment with the nurse was fun, although she had to ask a lot of serious/medical questions.
Today I had an appointment with the ob/gyn and an ultrasound afterwards. Again everyone was friendly and it was a relaxed atmosphere.
To sum up, I can say that it was a nice experience and I definitely will stay at Johns Hopkins Hospital for prenatal care and delivery.
I am really happy today! The "baby" is fine (I really like ultrasound now!), the ob/gyn told me that I'm very healthy and there is nothing to worry about
Re: prenatal care at Johns Hopkins Hospital
I agree Julia -
I've now been 3 times (my pregnancy is a bit complicated) and am LOVING my OB. I am with Meredith Birsner. I switched from Greenspring- where I was not satisfied with my pre-preg gyno care, to the main hospital for pregnancy.
Who is your OB? Meredith will be away for a couple of months coming up and I want to hand pick whom I schedule with during that time. If you don't mind sharing your doc : )
I think you will find a good alternative doctor there anyway ;
Actually, I am also new to the area and haven't been to any other hospital. I chose the Johns Hopkins Hospital in the City [I think the ob/gyn is located at 600 N Wolfe St] because I live close by the hospital and my husband is working there. So he can be with me within 2 minutes once the baby decides to be born
I read a lot of positive things about the Howard County General here too, so I think at the end both hospitals are fine and it doesn't matter which hospital you choose.
The new birthing center is fabulous (although I don't really like the interior design. They were going for something whimsical and to me, it's very cold & a little too abstract for kiddos). Unfortunately, I found myself there for a miscarriage and subsequent D&C, but it was great.
The new birthing rooms are HUGE. The furniture is more comfortable, the tv actually works, I thought it was a fantastic improvement.
The downside is that with the new set up, they seem to be MUCH stricter on visitors. This is only an observation, I don't know if it's true, as we didn't have visitors for this procedure but the lay-out is set up in a way that seems a little more restrictive.
I delivered my first at Hopkins and will again as well. We had a very rough start and everyone there was absolutely amazing. I'm surprised to hear that people had low opinions. My OB is also with Hopkins. I can't say enough good things about all phases there - from prenatal genetic counseling to a NICU stay, two infant surgeries, etc. They were wonderful.
Im so glad to read your post Since I work for Hopkins and we have EHP they changed the way our insurance is set up and if we do not go with a Hopkins hospital we will pay 10% more If we go with Hopkins its covered 100%. So im leaning towards the main hospital even though I love franklin square. Any suggestion on doctors?
