Ready to pack up the pump

I EPed for 15 months and now I'm trying to dry up. I've gotten down to 3 pumps a day; morning, midday, night (30 min each). I am in the process of shortening each session. Anyone else stopped pumping? How long did it take you to completely stop? Is there a point when your pumping sessions are so short theres no point in doing them? I don't want to stop so fast I end up with clogged ducts or infections.

Re: Ready to pack up the pump

  • I am wondering the same thing. I am no where near being ready yet, but when the time comes I would like to know. I am also an EPer so congrats for making it so long!

  • I EP'd for 8 months. But by 6 months I dropped to 3 pumps a day. Still had enough to feed him and freeze. So when 7 months came I was down to 2 pumps a day already. When I stopped at 8 months I was pumping 7 am and 7pm. Never felt overly full during that time period.

I got so fed up one day I just stopped. So I never weaned any more than that. I was uncomfortable for about a week. Not overly though. Had milk for about 2 weeks. Then dried up

  • When you were pumping 7 and 7, how long were you pumping each time?
  • Yes congrats for making it this long! I would try to cut down the length of your sessions next and then try to cut down to 2 and then 1 per day. I'm impressed with anyone who can pump that long at a time I get sore after 20 minutes and have to stop but then I use a hospital grade and I crank it up a bit :-p

  • I'm also interested in learning about this since I am starting to wean from the pump too.  I recently dropped a pump, and will drop another pump later this week.  I've been doing it gradually to avoid issues with clogged ducts, etc.  But from what I've read, they say to decrease the pump time too, before you actually drop the pumping session altogether.

Congratulations for making it this far as an EPer - definitely so much to be proud of!!  Yay momma!!
