Anyone else measuring a little big?

I'm 28 weeks and was told at my ultrasound yesterday (I have a heart condition so literally have been getting them every 4 weeks) that baby is measuring a little big. 3 pounds, 1 ounce already. I guess average size for this point is 2.5 pounds. How freaked out should i be about having a gigantic baby? I passed my glucose test, btw, so it's not diabetes causing this. I've heard their estimates can be off so trying not to worry too much. Anyone else told this so far?

Re: Anyone else measuring a little big?

  • That was what I measured at 28 weeks and the doctor said that was the 57th percentile. She did not seem concerned about it so I am trying not to be.

  • 57th percentile doesn't sound so scary/huge. I didn't think to ask about that. Thanks, that makes me feel a little better!
  • That difference is really not very large and probably well within the margin of error. It's not a fine art so don't put too much stock in it. If your doctor hasn't expressed any concerns, I wouldn't worry.

Mine was measuring 2#3oz at 26 weeks which was 76 percentile at that point and I also do not have GD. (I do also get lots of u/s for being high risk due to lupus) my MFM said she was perfectly healthy and acted like that was a good thing as I had great fluids etc so I would think 57 percentile is also perfectly fine then. Plus u/s get more and more notoriously inaccurate at weigh the later you get- my nephew was supposed to be 7.5# and was born at 5#3oz and they took him early because of that estimate (and SIL had GD I guess was the reasoning)

  • My baby is measuring in the 85th percentile. Perfect, healthy, No GD. He's going to just be big. I blame DH, because there are big babies on his side. I've also heard countless stories about babies measuring big, and end up being average sized. It isn't worth worrying about, you can't change it. My aunt has had 10 babies 5-11 pounds, and she says they all hurt the same.
  • I was measuring a week ahead at my ultrasound last week. I'm not worried about it. Ultrasounds are notorious for being inaccurate with weight. My co worker was told her baby was 10 pounds. 2 weeks and a c section later, she had a nearly 7 pound baby.
  • At 30 wks LO measured 4lb7oz. Everything I've seen says the avg is about 3lb. Dr said she probably had an early growth spurt and wasn't worried at all. I wouldn't worry if I were you.

  • So far this baby is measuring average, but my son measured ahead from the very beginning and ended up being a pretty big guy when he was born at exactly 40w. He was 9 lb 7 oz, 22 inches. I had normal blood sugar. No GD.

I didn't think there was anything scary about having a big baby.

  • My belly is measuring 3w ahead. Expecting an u/s soon. I do have GD.

  • The ultrasound is pretty inaccurate. My Dr gave me his best guess with DD just by feeling of her through my abdomen. He said to expect a 6 lb, maaaybe 7 lb baby. She was born at 6lb14oz, so I'll likely trust his estimate again.

  • Those measurements are pretty inaccurate, I wouldn't get worried yet.  Mine also fluctuated from US to US, one time I'd be a week under, the next a week over, so things can change in a flash!

  • I'm measuring a couple weeks ahead and baby is breech. Having another US at 34 weeks.
  • My fundal measurement is coming out big (I measured 33 weeks at 28+5).

Baby, however, has measured on track during the ultrasounds.....we'll see what happens!

  • I don't have percentiles since I don't get U/S at my appts, but I was 3 weeks ahead at my last OB appt.  We will see where I am at this week.
