I'm sending mine out this coming week since we don't live near our families and would like time for people to make travel arrangements if they would like to. It's about 8 weeks in advance of the party.
First, I'm sending save-the-dates ( probably in March); then I'll send the real invites 8 weeks out with the RSVP cards; then about three weeks prior, I will call everyone to make sure they RSVP.
I have no idea about this stuff. I'm probably going to be a mom who gets all these kinds of things "wrong" as she grows up.
ETA I hope the sarcasm font in my first paragraph worked.
I am sending invitations out about 3-4 weeks early. I am only sending them because I want to make really cute ones. I am inviting my siblings and their families so they think invitations are not necessary. I think they are nice.
We are having her birthday a week early so it will be Victoria Day weekend but everyone who is invited already knows the date. (No one had plans)
I plan to call, text or email about a month ahead and then again a week ahead to confirm before I buy my groceries and stuff for it. I also only have about 30-35 people so I guess this is manageable for me.

In our group of friends we don't normally send out invites but I want to save one. I did for DS's first birthday as well. I will give out the invitations a few weeks prior.
