GTKY: Rock lovers unite!

So I noticed that quite a few of us love rock music. So I'm always looking out for bands I've never heard of and I'm curious to know all of the different bands you like. Doesn't matter what style of rock it is (classic, pop, heavy metal, punk, symphonic, european, underground, etc) because I love quite a variety myself.

What concerts have you been to? What's your fav Album of all time and have you met any rock stars? Have you ever been in a band yourself? What'd you play?

Re: GTKY: Rock lovers unite!

  • I personally lean more towards girl groups/female lead singers.

    My favs:

    Evanescence
    within temptation
    Paramore
    Nightwish
    The birthday massacre
    Automatic love letter
    Kittie
    Delain
    Xandria
    Markize
    Elis
    After forever
    Leave's eye
    Fireflight
    Flyleaf
    Kidney thieves
Kerlie (not technically rock but damn good anyway)
    Sirenia
    Mandragora scream
    Heart
Joan Jett and the black hearts
    The runaways
    Sweeney Todd
    Suzi Quattro
    Hello Monday
    Joan Osborne
    Stevie nicks
    Bonnie Tyler
    The cranberries
Sarah Brightman did a nice little symphonic metal song
And there's a few more underground ones who's names escape me

    Non girl group

    Cradle of flight
    Breaking Benjamin
    Switch foot
    Nickel back
    30 seconds to mars
    Lincoln park
    Ozzy Osborne
    Marilyn Manson
    Muse
    Nirvana
    Puddle of mud
The entire "Queen of the Damned" soundtrack
    Imagine dragons
Michael Jackson (he def had a rock bone in him)
    Red hot chili peppers
    ACDC
I like a few songs from "Repo the Genetic Opera" especially the first song in the credits

I have only been to one rock concert :( It was so uncomfortable, I never went again. I had converses on and was standing the whole time. So. Much. Pain. But I saw flyleaf and they were amazing!

I've also been in a band from high school til mid college. We still play occasionally but, not like we used to :( I miss it. I was lead guitar, vocals and sometimes the drums. DW was vocals and most of the time guitar. We kicked ass.

From your list I've seen fly leaf and AC/DC in concert, both amazing. My FIL had an affair w Joan Jett, so that's pretty sweet, ha. STP is one of my faves, I saw them together before their split with Scott Weiland and Chester's step in as lead vocals. I also saw Weiland in concert - he was awesome (although super high/wasted off his ass). ETA: AC/DC was AMAZING in concert :)

  • I'm not specifically a rock fan, I have very mix-mash tastes in music, but I had to say I looove Nightwish! They've been one of my favorites since college :)

I enjoy quite a few others on your list as well (evanescence, imagine dragons, Michael Jackson, RHCP) but nobody else ever seems to know Nightwish!

A few other rock bands on my list are Coheed and Cambria, Lacuna Coil, Chevelle, and I'm sure there's more. I've never been to many concerts, they aren't really my scene.
  • I'm really into 80s hair bands and old school metal. I am really depressed that my husband is going to the Motley Crue farewell tour with Alice Cooper. It is one week after my due date, so he himself may not be going either, but we love doing stuff like that together. Personally I would be more excited for Alice.

I love Kix, Firehouse, Poison, KISS, GNR, Def Leppard, Cinderella, Dokken, pretty much love the 80s. Nothing like the hair nation station on Sirius.
  • Yes to 80s hair bands :). GNR especially

Ok, do you prefer Anette or Tarja as lead? I think they're both great but I prefer Tarja. She's got so much experience in her voice.

Also, I've tried very hard to get into lacuna coil but I'm just not feeling their sound.
  • Modest Mouse, The Nationals, My Morning Jacket- a few bands that my husband loves and I've grown to like too.

    Mommy to R (8.23.11) and K (6.21.14).

  • There's a rock festival in Ohio every year called Rock on the Range and because of that, I've seen a ton of bands. My favorites that I've seen are : Korn, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed (amazing show, so sad they're on hiatus), Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Skillet, Halestorm, In This Moment, and Hinder.

@jensavicci If you're into female leads, you should check out Halestorm and In This Moment. Skillet also has a female lead but there's also a male lead and they switch back and forth.

  • DH and I are into a pretty good mix rock/indie rock/alt/indie. We joke that if it weren't for music we probably wouldn't be married because we are pretty much opposites except for our music tastes.

Muse is by far our favorite, we've seen them in concert every chance we get and actually got to hang out with the band after a show when we showed up at a small bar after the show that they happened to have stopped by, too. Most exciting/cool night of our lives, by far :)

Black Keys, Jack White, Nationals, Foo Fighters, Deftones, and now my mind is going blank all of a sudden....

  • So far, the only rock bands I've seen in concert are As I Lay Dying, Demonhunter, Five Finger Death Punch, Norma Jean, Amberlin, Motionless in White, Skillet, Asking Alexandra, August Burns Red, After the Burial, AFI, and Project 86. I have a whole list of bands I'd love to see in concert like Heart, Def Leopard, Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, Fireflight, Flyleaf, Metallica, Three Days Grace, Slipknot, Evanescence, etc.

@futuremrsbrian I know who Nightwish is. My brother introduced me to them bc he was obsessed with them.
  • I thought this thread was about rocks when I read the title...lol. Pregnancy Brain makes me dumb as rocks I guess...haha.

I have been to a lot of concerts but RHCP is one band I have always wanted to see. :)
    hi

  • @Jensavicci

That's a tough question! I love Annette's tone, but Tarja was the lead when I first found the band and became obsessed. So I guess my favorite depends on whatever song I'm feeling that day. Today would be an Annette day because I've been rocking to 'Amaranth' while working around the house :)
  • @Artistmom30

I love Avenged Sevenfold! And DH likes Atreyu but I just haven't been able to get into them.
  • @futuremrsbrian that hurts my heart. Atreyu is definitely one of my favorite bands. Been obsessed with them for years. Keep giving them a chance. I promise that band will grow on you :)

    @jensavicci

Blasphemy! How can you mix up Korn and Disturbed???! ;) Disturbed is way better than Korn. Also, gotta listen to Lacuna Coil for a while before they grow on you. It took me a while but now I dig them.
  • I started out a full blown rocker, but have since adapted to loving a lot of different types of music. Let's see. I've seen

linkin park (first concert ever) with hoobastank, p.o.d, and story of the year
panic! At the disco with ok,go and the hush sound (I went through a brief "scene" phase)
The Academy Is with a bunch of other bands I don't remember
Slipknot with Trivium and Coheed and Cambria
Coheed and Cambria with Circa Survive
    Mindless Self Indulgence
Avenged Sevenfold with Three Days Grace and Bullet for my Valentine
and most recently Iron Maiden with Coheed and Cambria

I probably forgot some, but I love concerts, and music! Also, coheed is kinda my jam, so...

  • Oh man. Music!!! Lets see...

    Favs:
    New Found Glory (seen 3x)
A Day to Remember (seen twice)
    Four Year Strong (seen 4-5x)
    Balance & Composure (seen once)
    Cartel (seen once)
    The Sleeping (seen twice)
    Silverstein (seen once)
    Taking Back Sunday (seen twice)

then switch to the 90s favs:
    DMB
    The Cranberries
    Incubus (seen once)
    311 (seen twice)
    Sublime
    Third Eye Blind (seen 3x)
    No Doubt (Tragic Kingdom)
    Cake
    Blues Travelers (seen once)
    U2 (80s & 90s)
    The Cure (80s & 90s)
    Better than Ezra

I have seen sooooooo many shows. Mostly because of my husband. As a kid I saw a lot of Grateful Dead, Phish, and other hippy concerts with my parents. (I am such a flower child) I've seen other bands not on the list but I can't remember them all. I went to a lot of pop punk right after high school and then my husband got me into pop punk/screamo so I would go see a lot of shows with him.

This past late winter and coming into spring there have been a TON of fantastic shows that we have been wanting to go to... I can't go though because of being pregnant. There's a lot of belligerent fools out there that don't care about shoving, elbowing, kicking you and I won't risk the baby. Plus the double bass is ridic and the doc told me no, lol.

  • I have a pretty eclectic taste in music. My all time favorite band is probably Led Zepplin.

I'm an 80's hair band fan too. The last concert I went to (two years ago) was Poison and Motley Crue. I've seen Poison four times and they are great every single time.

I've been to Ozzfest twice about ten years ago and that was a great time. The second time Cradle of Filth was headlining the second stage and Marilyn Manson was on the main stage. Plus Ozzy was great. I'd love to go to that same concert over and over again.

I miss going to concerts regularly like I used to. I like the convenience of iTunes, but sometimes I miss the thrill of buying a CD you've been waiting for.

I saw TBM last year and they were awesome. I've seen MM a handful of times, and he's always fun.
