Babies on the Brain

I would like to say pregnancy symptoms... but

I would like to say that food aversion due to smell, being able to smell things my husband doesn't notice and sore nipples are signs of pregnancy for me, but I feel like I have those all pretty often... And I don't know my cycle yet to know if I should get my hopes up because I've only been off birth control since January. jeesh I can't even look at my dreams as being weird and vivid because they're always weird. I also frequently fatigued...
Does anyone else have this inconvenience??? Even when I was on birth control I could convince my husband I was pregnant because of all my symptoms. If you do have this problem, did you know it was different when you got your BFP?

Re: I would like to say pregnancy symptoms... but

  • PMS symptoms and early preg symptoms are similar. The difference is a positive test

Most pregnancy symptoms are caused by the same hormones that cause PMS symptoms. I get really sensitive to smell and my boobs/nipples are often sore before my period. It happens a lot. Especially when you're looking for it, it's easy to drive yourself batty. The thing to remember is that if you're pregnant enough for symptoms, you're probably pregnant enough to turn a test. For me, I didn't know it was that different with either of my first two BFPs. Only my (edit) third one, that went a little further, did I start to have different and stronger symptoms.

If you are interested in knowing more about what's going on with your body, you can start tracking your basal body temperature and using a charting tracker like fertilityfriend.com so that you can know better about where you are in your cycle and when the best time to test is.

  • Yeah... but this is even outside of PMS. It just gets worse with PMS. Kind of funny actually. It's not constant though, just one day I'll complain about sore boobs, then they get better the next day and then another day I'm complaining about a smell or a food and then I don't the next. I've also been on birth control for several years, so I'm adjusting to remember how my PMS was before birth control.
  • Just officially starting TTC here in the last week or so, so I just started charting my BBT.
  • A few months after I went off hormonal BC, those symptoms lessened for me (especially the sore bewbs/nipples). Perhaps these symptoms will subside a bit in the coming months and quit giving false alarms. If your pill had high levels of progesterone, that would definitely contribute to all those symptoms when you were on it.

I also recommend temping/charting as PP have recommended. It will really help you understand your cycle. Also, pick up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's super informative.

    Best of luck!

  • do a dollar store hpt, that way it's not much of a monetary investment. in fact do one every day if you still think you might be. with DD I thought i was getting my period for a week and that it was just pas symptoms, sure enough when I POAS'd it was faintly positive. GL
