High-Risk Pregnancy

Hi... IC pregnancy (LONG-sorry)

Hi all! We just found out that we're expecting in November! This is our second pregnancy. Hubby and I have a 6 month old (3 months early due to IC, IU, and PTL.) Needless to say, we were SHOCKED to find out that we're pregnant again so soon after our last pregnancy. We tried for right at a year to get our BFP with her, and we just "knew" that we would be TTC for awhile this time. Haha!! I just started temping in February to see how my cycles are now. Our last pregnancy was normal until it wasn't. At our 24 week appt, it was discovered that I only had 1 cm left of my cervix and was contracting regularly. Three weeks of hospital bedrest, meds, tons of cervical length checks, and our little girl decided to join us. My OB is meeting with us next week because I want to be referred to a physician that does TAC since a TVC isn't really an option (bedrest would be a joke with a 6 month/3 adjusted baby).

Re: Hi... IC pregnancy (LONG-sorry)

  • Welcome and congrats on your pregnancy! I am 28 weeks with a TVC. My son went full term with no issues, but by 18 weeks of this pregnancy they caught shortening and funneling of my cervix. I think a TAC is a good choice! Just out of curiosity, would you still be taking progesterone suppositories or shots? Happy and healthy 9 months!

  • I just wanted to say good luck to you! And I wanted to tell you that a TVC does not necessarily mean bed rest. My first pg ended at 22w due to IC, PTL and PROM. This time around I elected for a preventative TVC at 14w (I'm pg with twins again). I'm currently almost 31w have had absolutely no bed rest and my cervix has stayed closed the entire time. Each pg is different. I didn't want the TAC because it was invasive and I didn't want to do that while pregnant.

I'm not sure whether I'll be doing shots or suppositories, but, my doctor let me know that I'll definitely be getting some form of progesterone during each subsequent pregnancies. I took the progesterone suppositories while I was in the hospital, and I think they bought us those three weeks. I'm sure that without getting them and the hospital bedrest that we would've delivered our baby at 24 weeks.

  • My first daughter was born at 24 weeks because of IC and IU.

I wanted to second that a TVC doesn't automatically mean bed rest. I had mine placed at 12 weeks, preventatively. I was able to go to classes and run errands and do my normal household chores, just ensuring I took rest. The only reason I was on strict bed rest for my third trimester was because of my irritable uterus. I had contractions all day everyday, but there was no change to my cervical length until 32 weeks, which is normal.

In fact, I stopped my IU meds at 36 weeks and had my stitch removed at 37 weeks. My daughter wasn't born until 39 weeks exactly.

  • I'm 33.5 weeks with my preventative cerclage I had placed at 14w and haven't had BR. I have a 4&2.5y old and my H has had to do a majority of the heavy lifting with them but I would discuss it with your dr and see.

I had IC w/ my son and made it FT (found out at 29w and was on BR until 36ish) but this time w/ a cerclage my cervix has held strong at 2.7cm. GL!
