Identicals and Teething

I have 8 month old ID boys that were born at 34 weeks. They have been pretty much meeting all their milestones within days of each other, really no discernible difference in skills or maturity. Sometimes one takes a big leap in one area and the other twin in another, but by the next week they both have both skills.

I know that all kids are different, but Baby A had a new tooth when we woke up this morning and baby B did not? Genetically... Teeth should emerge at the same time, right? I'm not concerned or anything but I was wondering from you moms of IDs, what was your teething experience? Thanks!

Re: Identicals and Teething

  • Our ID girls have teeth that come within a couple days of each other to a couple weeks. They also always get the same tooth but opposite side. Weird, I know. But we had them tested and they are ID. Also, teeth breaking the surface can be an environmental factor. Maybe baby A nawed a little more on the teething toys and broke the skin sooner. I'm sure baby B will follow shortly.

  • I have no advice, as my ID girls are only 3.5 months, but I just want to say that JordynLEighx3...I want to SQUEEZE your girls every time I see this picture. They are SO cute! They remind me a lot of my girls, b/c of the full faces, but mine are fairer. :D

  • C popped her first two teeth on Thanksgiving. T, about 5 days later popped one.  Her second one came in a few weeks later.  They are both working on the upper four now.  But C in a more typical pattern of the middle two, and the outer two following behind.  T is doing the opposite.  So, they won't be exactly the same.  Now that they are out, things do happen a little differently.  My girls are at way different levels on a couple different skills too, but up until about 9 months, they were very close to one another.  The divergence has occurred only in the last couple months.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • I don't think it has to be the exact same day.  Ours were always within a week or 2 of each other for getting teeth.

  • Mine get teeth within a week or two of each other, not the same day though.

Thank you! I need to update it. I always mobile bump so I never see it. I believe it's roughly 7 months old lol

  • N always seems to be a week or two "behind" L whenever they cut teeth, and they are definitely ID. I don't think it has to happen on the same day.

  • I can't imagine all their teeth coming in on the exact same day, every time. My girls were usually within a couple days to a week of each other though.

  • My identicals usually have teeth come in within a few days of each other for the most part. E is getting her eye teeth now and I assume when I look in Z's mouth in a day or 2, I'll see her eye teeth starting to come through too.

  • Thanks ladies! J has them now too... Just took about 48 hours. Something new every day...
