I still don't understand how these boards aren't already "social groups" or where this idea (and I hesitate to call it an idea) comes from at all. So I guess you know how I voted.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed clear to me that the idea of social groups came from people leaving the Bump for Facebook in small groups. I know personally I am a part of my Knot group on Facebook, and my BMB from my daughter mostly moved to Facebook. There are two groups from that BMB on Facebook I think. It makes sense that the Bump would try and come up with a way to keep people here and fill the spot that Facebook takes up. I personally stuck around, but I know most of the other people in my groups almost never come back.
I get that they're trying to compete FB groups, but those private groups usually kill BMBs. I don't see how these would NOT do the same thing. In which case I'd be done with the Bump. I'm not an avid poster, but like these boards during pregnancy. Setting up private groups that kill their own boards seems pretty ridiculous.
Yeah, clearly they are trying to avoid people migrating to FB. But they are missing why people migrate to FB (it's not just the smaller group size but also the fact that people are on FB for other reasons).
Personally the idea of unmoderated groups is pretty horrifying - people are ugly enough on public boards and I just can't see anything good coming of it. Having the BMB has already killed the main boards relative to what they used to be.
Re: Social groups question
I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.
